Ugh. I'm petrified of spiders. I saw a spider on my citrus tree and I nearly screamed and dropped the plant. Instead I went all brave and flicked it off....eeeew.

It is a Venezuelan Suntiger (Psalmopoeus irminia). She was a gift from my college roommate who kept all sorts of interesting animals in our apartment as he was studying to be a herpetologist. I have to say she makes a really awesome pet. She requires so little care, provides a lot of interest, and its fun to put together a goods looking terrarium. She is very old, 6 or 7 years, and I don't know if I'll get another when she kicks the bucket.

I love tarantula's but I'm just not sure if my parrot would put up with another pet in the house, she goes after the dog when ever she can LOL

My camera is an old 4 megapixel fairly cheap cannon. It's not so much the camera most of the time, but the time someone spends using one. I average about 10-12 photos a day. I'm a camera freak.

I will probably invest in a professional camera this year because they are more versatile. My wife wants me to get to the point there is some income from photos. We'll see. I do a nature shots. Took this out my the mailbox a few days ago.

That is a super nice shot Randy, but argh! that watermark just kills it! I know you are trying to prevent it getting ripped off, but maybe putting it in the corner would be a workable compromise? I'm not trying to tell you how to manage your own art, I just wish I could fully enjoy it. :-)

I just love the detail you get in your shots Randy..my camera will blur out long before I can get a shot like that.

I do the watermark right where it is on purpose. I'm not much on swinese or legalese, whichever you prefer , but GardenWeb claims ownership of any photo posted here. You take a nice enough photo and post it here, they could sell it. You have no legal recourse. That is why many really good photographers no longer are members here or never post photos.

That's what caused the great bugout here 3-4 years ago and one of the reasons that other forum was started.

I hear ya Randy. I remember that exodus quite well, and although I didn't neccassarily agree with everyone's outrage, if you recall, I did try and take advantage of the situation by starting my own forum...

I've thought about this issue a lot, as I spend huge amounts of time and effort on my photography. In the end, my honest feeling is that (a) I will never make a significant amount of money from my photography no matter what I do, and (b) that I want as many people as possible to see and enjoy my work. Given those two points, I would rather be generous with my art, and share it frequently and unencumbered than try to protect it. Sure, it would suck to have my photos usurped by GW (or anyone else) while I get no money out of it. However, in addition to being incredibly unlikely, the reality is my photos would then reach a greater audience than I could ever manage alone. To me, that is worth more than the trivial amount of money it should/would earn if I clung so tightly to the copyright.

I guess I'll just have to wait until you publish a book before I get to enjoy your photos without the watermark intruding! :-)

I understand your thought process, but don't agree.

It wasn't GardenWeb that spent many hours in very boring and uncomfortable situations waiting for that one frame that made it all worth while. It wasn't Gardenweb covered with bug spray, ticks, and mosquitoes in 100 degree plus heat earning the privilege to be in the right spot at the right time.

And if there is ever a nickle earned it won't be GardenWeb taking what rightly belongs to some one else. That only happens in Obama's world, not mine. :-)

I've given away and given permission many times for some of my stuff to be used in calendars and other fund raising curcumstances. It's not about the money, it's about what's right and wrong.

Politics is rarely an open fair discussion. Most get heated and start name calling when when they can't defend their views. I have no interest in that.

Let's stick to plants and photos and leave politics to people that have nothing better to do. :-)

rjj1, also a thought that has nothing to do with plants, ha! ..If you are only using a 4 megapixel camera, you are a natural.. I started with a Canon PS (8mp)and actually shot my first wedding with it! (along w/ a simple Canon k2 35mm) I made the big investment in Jan. and purchased the Canon 50D. I highly recommend it! I just wish I could post pics here!! Ive never been able to, taken everyones advice, to no avail! You should consider doing it for money, youre good! I just started my own business last summer, and my only regret is not doing it sooner!

It's been kind of overcast part of the day (great for working outdoors if you have the time) but overall, it's nice. I'm now going on a month without wearing pants.

Yes, they're all in shorts, too. We're on a little less than an acre, but I have a whole hillside (667 m tall or so) of public land that I live out do my Druidic tendencies, but the coyotes generally drown out my howls. Of course, with a black bear (who is very caramel in fur hue) also making walking a little interesting, I've cut that bit back. I do walk with the smaller of my two digging bars.

Discretion from an Adenium grower? I'd heard that that existed...

What sort of Cyphostemmas do you grow? I've found the additions of large amounts of manure to the potting soil to be most efficacious. What say you?

Shorts are what I wear most of the year. Greenhouse in winter can be a little warm sometimes. It makes for a quick jog to the house though if outside temps are in the teens.

It's 94 here at lunchtime. But feels like a blissful 80 under the shade tree as the wind dries the sweat from your clothes and skin.

My adeniums love this weather. I'm not as fond of it as I used to be. Tend to start working around 4:00 am to get the bulk of things done before it gets too hot.

Sadly I don't own any Cyphostemmas. Hopefully my ability to grow other things will expand next year. I only have so much space my budget will allow me to heat over the winter. I see my budget growing this year. Life is good here in flyover country. :-)
