Does anybody know anything about propagating iochroma

This is my first year growing these plants and I just love them. So far I have yet to see a seed pod and have no idea what one looks like. I thought that maybe the flowers weren't being pollinated so I hand pollinated some this morning. Can you take cuttings? I looked through old posts and found loads of conflicting techniques, not surprising. Has anybody had success either rooting cuttings or obtaining seeds? Can they be allowed to go dormant similar to brugs or do they need to be kept warm and under lights?

I have been growing mine from seed this year but have not yet had any sign of flowers although the plants are now quite big and woody - at least 120cm tall with a 100cm spread. If there is no sign of blooms, I will take cuttings as they should be a lot easier to overwinter. They germinated really easily with quite large cotyledons, after about 3 weeks and grew on all summer. I got seeds from chiltern seeds, UK. If they are like brugs, I expect the cuttings to strike quickly and easily in Jiffy 7s.

Karyn, yes you can take cuttings. I have started them from seeds and cuttings, I do not recommend treating them like you would a dormant Brugmansia.

Well, I got better advice here, from Mentha, than I got from Ebay's Live Chat, lol. Thank you, Mentha! Luna, the Zephyranthes citrina bulbs, which are southern US natives, I bought from him under a different name took months to arrive from Holland and were basically just papery shells full of more papery stuff(dried out past salvaging). Even before this I wouldn't have bought anything from this person. In my opinion he's the Michagan Bulbs Co. of Ebay. Foxy, yes, there is an update as a matter of fact. The fellow in question, whom I will not call a gentleman, refused my invoice, which I expected, but he also took my picture out of his listing. I thought that would be the end of it, this person is a powerseller after all so you'd think he'd be a professional, but this evening he used a different, but very similar, powerselling ID to send me 8 different harrassing emails, many about the "poor quality" of the pictures I used in one of my store listings. I ended up feeling like I had to make a report to the Trust and Safety Board over there. Since he's a powerseller I doubt that anything will come of this single incident but you never know. I wish we had a venue for independent sellers on GW. I've made the suggestion over at the Suggestions and Comments forum but since others have made it in the past and nothing has come of it I doubt anything will this time either. Oh well, Ebay sucks but it seems to be the only show in town.

olpea: In case you haven't seen it bacterial spot resistance is rated in their catalog. Nectafest is a USDA release out of WV and is rated 7 for bacterial spot resistance, pretty good. Only Avalon and SilverGem are higher at 8. Carene and Ambre are also a 7. So the ones you listed are about their best nectarines for BS resistance. The ones I like of Zaigers are rated 5 and 6. Thanks for the heads up about ordering. I requested an inventory list today.

I've had him about 3 years, it's a Lambert Hybrid Musk 1932. Seems to be a slow grower but healthy. I can find very little info about it on HMF & not much more from the Vintage Gardens catalogue. Per HMF it can climb & Vintage has it topping out at 4' or less. Any help would be appreciated. Jane

I have been wanting one of these plants forever and a friend is bringing me one this weekend! So, KHT or anybody, what minimum temps will these take and still be happy? Do ya'll grow these in full sun and fertilize as frequently as brugs?

I grow them in full sun but don't water or fertilize as much as the brugs. I let them dry between waterings and fertilize once a month. I plan on taking them into the greenhouse before the first frost. This is the first year that I've grown these and don't know much about them but they are doing beautifully and have been blooming constantly for the past month.
