ID... Three plants.

Some time ago, introduced an aggressive fungus to my houseplants, which rapidly killed most of them. Lucky me, I've now got room to buy more ;o)

I recently purchased these three plants at a supermarket. All where unlabeled of course. They were in a very soggy medium, which they seemed to dislike very much, but since I recently put them in cat litter, they seem to have perched up a bit.

The three little cuttings are from a crassula coccinea. It's the others I need identification on.

The one in the back, I'm guessing is Crassula perfoliata subsp. falcata -Am I right?

The pink one on the left, is that an Echeveria? Graptopetalum? -Or ...?

The low growing rosette on the right was in really bad shape from the medium it was growing in. It would either be bone dry or very very soggy. It lost quite many leaves from the bottom due to this, but it seems to have taken to the cat litter it's now growing in. Could this be Aeonium tabuliforme? Or something completely different?

I always laugh at myself thinking that I will be able to ID something but I always have to look. IMHO I think the one on the left is an Echeveria and the one on the right is a sempervidium. There ends my knowledge...

The flat looking one off to the right looks like Aeonium tabuliforme, AKA 'Dinner Plate Aeonium.'

The one in the back next to the pole looks like Crassula falcata, AKA 'Propeller Plant.'

Sorry, I don't know about the others.

I would have said the first one was Verbena hastata, except that it's blooming already up here in northern Illinois. Please post a picture of the flowers when they come and let us know when you verify what it is!

I think I agree that #3 is in fact Indian Tobacco. That means that I have been pulling out the very plant I have been trying for a while to grow. I found a single website with a picture of a rosette of Indian Tobacco leaves on it and it does indeed resemble what I have. I will have to transplant some and try growing them indoors during the winter. As for #2, it could very well be in the Wild Lettuce family. My plants don't appear to be prickly... yet. I have seeds for Lactuca canadensis, but I don't believe that I ever planted any of them.

#1 I think adromischus is a very good guess, but I can't seem to find anything on google images that looks like it. #2 Stenocereus also seems like a good guess. But hard to identify which one. Not too fond of it, but would like to know what it is. #3 Definitely a gymnocalycium. I might be able to identify it when it gets flowers. I think I have narrowed it down to three possibilities. Thanks guys!

Dave, sorry I didn't catch that in your response. Yes, all are evergreen. Macranthros, yes, but as long as I am familiar with the leaf type and original climate, I am now happy to transplant to a better location and know how to treat this tree.Knowing the Family/Genus does well towards care. I will come back to this thread and post a picture of the blooms. You guys are awesome. These plants have been 'bothering' me as to their care for a few years now, due to lack of knowledge. I refused to allow my Better Half to mow down the Acacia, as I was smart enough to recognize as a lovely tree. TY all once again :-)

I was thinking that one on left is E. Perle von Nurnberg or perhaps E. gibbiflora metallica.

Not sure...
Photo of Perle von Nurnberg (it's not as pink as photo shows, that's artificial lights...but it has pinkish colour):

My guess for the 'flat' rosette on right would be aeonium...

YAY, I was right on the Crassula and Aeonium tabuliforme!

Having just looked up the Aeonium on Dave's Garden, I've discovered that it does not like water to be standing in the rosette (which it is now, after a rain storm), I guess I have to come up with something, so that it can easily run of. How big do these get? -I'm hoping the popular name "Dinner Plate Aeonium" is only referring to the shape, and not the size o.O

How do I tell E. Perle von Nurnberg from E. gibbiflora metallica? Looking at pictures of them both on the internet, I think they look more or less like the same plant. Are there any way I can narrow the ID down any further? -Will I be able to tell once they flower, or what? -And how, do I GET it to flower?

You have the ID on 2 & I'll confirm the Echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg'. You don't often see metallica/'Metallica' (there are 2 by the name) in the trade. So, more likely 'PvN'...and yes, somewhat difficult to tell apart at times.

I am reading from "The Complete Book of Cacti & Succulents" by Terry Hewitt (copyright 1993): "When three years old, this species [Aeonium tabuliforme] flowers and dies. Offsets rarely form, so keep several plants to cross-pollinate the yellow summer flowers and produce seedlings."

It says (in my book) that the max height is 2 inches and it gets 12 inches wide. I guess you could say dinner plate! Sorry about the news of it dying at such a young age... I've never owned one, I cannot attest to this as being true or untrue. I don't know about the overhead watering, but I'd imagine the water gets trapped between the leaves. Might have to be careful and water around the base of the plant?

Three years, you say? Well, I'll see if I can get some leaf cuttings to root before then. My guess is, that it's about one to two years old now.
It might not be very noticeable from the picture, but it's got a small dimple in the centre of the plant. This is where rain water collects. I have now tried to correct this, by tilting it a bit, by putting some small stones under one side of the rosette. After the next rain storm, I'll have a look, and see if it was enough.
The medium I've recently begun growing my succulents in, is cat litter, of a kind, that is actually a burnt diatomaceous clay. It's cheap, and fantastic... and a lot better than any commercial cactus soil, I've ever used. As long as water gets into the pot, it will soon be distributed, so that it also ends up by the roots, no matter where I water, and without ever getting too wet. I hope this will keep stem rot from developing in any of my plants :-D

Sure thing! I don't much about that kind of mix, but it's always a good thing when you find what works for you. :) If it still collects in the center of your plant after it rains, you could always suck up the water with a paper towel or q-tip perhaps? Maybe not a permanent fix, but at least you get it out of the center before it sits for too long.
