don't plant them in a terrarium. Sarracenias, venus' flytraps, & sundews do best outside in full sun. Cobra pitcher plants are VERY tricky to grow from my experiences.

Most carnivorous plants can grow very well in these following medias:
1)Peat moss Alone
2)A mixture of 50% Peat moss + 50% Perlite Mix
3)Long fibered sphagnum moss
4)Live Sphagnum Moss

You can use any of these medias listed above. AVOID green moss or sheet moss. these will not suit your plants. Also avoid regular house plant potting soils, as these sometimes contain plant food or fertilizers. Carnivorous plants enjoy growing in low nutrient Acidic soils.

Your plants will benefit from lots of fresh water. Reverse ormosis or purified is the best quality. You can purchase one gallon bottles of water in your local markets. they're a dollar or so. sometimes way cheaper, or you can re-fill them for 60 cents in the water bending machines.

Most Carnivorous plants enjoy having their roots moist or very wet. During the growing season, Sarracenia, venus' flytraps & most sundews enjoy having their roots wet & having a moist media.

Your plants will benefit well from 4 - 6 hours of full sunlight. TOO much light can be really bad.. while getting their foilage burned. 4 - 6 hours is WAY enough for any carnivorous plant. Only nepenthes can't be growned in full sun. Nepenthes grow well in bright shade, or 1 -2 hours of morning sun. Never expose your nepenthes to hot full sun, they can get burned easily..

Flytraps, sarracenias, sundews, & cobra plants grow well in full sun.

Venus' flytraps Love full sun, they grow better outdoors rather than inside of a terrarium. They grow vigorously while they catch their own prey outdoors. They also split & divide as they grow older. Venus' flytraps grow well in 50% Peat moss + 50% Perlite mix. They like being watered everytime the water evaporates from their water trays.

Sarracenias love growing in full sunlight. They enjoy watter logged media during the hot summers. I grow mine outside & they do wonderful catching lots of insects on their own. Sarracenias are very simple to grow, they can grow in a mix of %50 peatmoss + %50 perlite. Lots of water during the growing season, as long as it's growned outside.

The cobra plant likes having its roots kept cool. You can achieve this by over head watering it frequently with cold water(also purified). Or leave ice cubes on top of the media so they can melt and keep the moist a bit chilly along with the Cobra plant's roots. The cobra plant will also benefit from full sun, that's why they're so tricky to grow. They love being full sun while having their roots kept cool. These cobraplants grow well in live sphagnum or long fibered sphagnum moss. Or a mixture of peat moss, perlite, pumice, or lava rock, or Orchid Bark. As long as the media is "airy" in order for the water to run down the plants roots to keep it cool.

Your nepenthes will not benefit well if it stands in water. Nepenthes do well by watered from top. water the media, then mist its leaves with a water mister(also purified)
Nepenthes grow fine in 40% peat moss + 60% perlite mixed with orchid bark. they like having their media moist but not soaking wet. they benefit alot from high humidity. NEVER expose your nepenthes in full sun for a long time. they can grow vigorously from getting morning sunlight(atleast 1-2 hours of morning sun they will grow fine. they can even be growned in very bright shade or an indirect light area.

I can't tell what type of sundew you have but you probably have a pigmy sundew. and it probably looks like a little squatted circle maybe a size of a quarter or dime coin.
But Most sundews love full sun. The more sun they get, the more dew they create. a sundew can also catch lots of gnats.. flies.. anything pretty much that gets stuck on its tentacles. Sundews grow well in a 50% peat moss + 50% perlite. they also like being waterlogged sometimes from time through time, just don't over do it.

You should repot your plants & plant them seperatly since you bearly recieved them.

Try getting "canadian brand peat moss, shwultz peatmoss, or Lambert peatmoss" avoid regular plant potting soil.

Live sphagnum moss can be aquired from on-line, or very reputable carnivorous plant nurseries. live sphagnum moss can be quite pricey. you can grow your nepenthes & cobra plant with long fibered sphagnum moss as well. just mix it with Orchid bark, lava rock & pumice, you want the nepenthes & cobra plant's media very Airy. The nepenthes likes moist media, not wet.
The cobra plant loves having its roots very cool, so water the cobra plant ONLY with cold water.. just the cobra plant, with cold water. Your rest of your plants water them with fresh water.

so.. you should purchase a gallon bag of peat moss at your local nursery, along with some perlite, & orchid bark. the sphagnum moss can be achieved here:

*purchase the media for the plants.. along with some purified water.

*repot the plants you think you should repot.
*water them throughly with the tray method.
*acclimate them through your surroundings. Before introducing them to full sun, give them about 1-2 hours of full sun. acclimate them atleast for a week(only the sundew, flytrap, sarracenia, and cobra plant, not the nepenthes)
*after they are acclimated through your surroundings, then introduce them to full sun.. they can benefit very well from 4 - 6 hours of full sun. just don't over do it.

But I think the cobra plant that trap7 got is not
Darlingtonia. I think it is Sarrencia psittacina or a
hybrid with it. I got what I thought was a Darlingtonia
in one of those bagged plants display at OSH
and once home and checking it out was wondering where the
mustache went! So in checking I deduced it was not the
Darlingtonia I wanted!!! AAAAaarrrggghhhhh!
But I decided to keep the plant and experiment with its
culture. Here is what I wrote for a website I had last year:
While browsing at the local Orchard Supply Hardware store for a bag of perlite I ran
across a commercial mix for what is termed "acid-loving plants". While geared
towards terrestrial type plants, notably shrubs, I purchased a bag of this mix with
the idea of incorporating it into my cultivation attempt with Darlingtonia.
My approach in using this mix in a repotting scheme for the above Darlingtonia plant
took a two-fold direction. The first was to apply a thin layer (around half an inch or so)
on the bottom of the pot into which the pitcher plant was to be repotted. Then I
mixed at a 1:1 ratio the commercial acid mix with milled peat moss.

Well the plant did great and once the roots hit the acid mix/peat moss combo it grew big and upright compared to it being somewhat of a sprawler before then. I just noticed to day that it has put up a flower stalk so i am eagerly awaiting to see what it looks like!!

On the Darlingtonia, I use a drip system using one of the
2.5 gallon water jugs with a sprigot and just open it a little so that it drops onto the sphagnum the very small darlingtonia is in (another rescue of a bagged plant from
Home Depot). I also cool r/o water in the frig and add to the drip reservoir or only use the cooled water to keep the
root cold. this is not a fast grower! compared to sarrencias.

Also if you are going to be buying bottled distilled water for your plants I suggest that you seriously consider an R/O unit. A basic unit with hoses etc should run about $200.
I have a MPro unit from SpectraPure (link below) and it puts out 90 gallons a day which I do not use but I do use about 10-15 gallons a day. Imagine paying .70 (WalMart) or
1.49 (or more elsewhere) for a gallon of water at 15 gallons per day! How many gallons do you use a day. Do the math and you will agree that the big bite out front is more cost effective than being nickled and dimed to death!

ok UPDATE!!. my cobra pitcher plant (without the tongue) is doing fine. i cut alot of the dried pitchers so that the plant can focus in on growing new healthier pitchers. my pitcher plant is doin ok too. i bought 18 crickets. and i fed my cobra pitcher and pitcher plant. its wierd. should i just put them in there or whaT?? does the pitcher fill with fluid after awhile or wat happens? cause im used to having the bugs crushed my the mouth of a VFT so its wierd for me to just have a cricket in a pitcher and nothing happen to it. so yea. i filled all the pitcher's in the Nepenthes with crickets, they are just in there, unable to escape, so is it ok? will they be drowned in the plants fluid after a few days? ok, same thing goes for the cobra pitcher, will that happen too? ok. i also had my small VFT eat some, but its soo small. i want it to thrive, i think im going ot repot them all, then when the good summer comes in, take the outside so that they can catch their own damn food. since i always have to feed them since its still chilly. well thanks to anyone who read this all! lol. well im only 16. wierd for a plant lovers age huh. well thanks everyone!!!

Okay, so you have them inside for now until the weather warms up and then you will move them outside? Wow, it is already reaching 96 degrees here in Mississippi. I had to move my nepenthes to hang under a tree so that they don't get ANY sun at all except for what is filtering through the trees because I noticed they were getting sunburned.

To answer your question, did you have to fill the pitchers with water or did they already have fluid in them? If they already had the fluid, then that is fine. If you had to add water, then you shouldn't be feeding them. You should give the plants a chance to acclimate and to produce digestive fluid. I know that feeding them is fun, but even indoors they will catch plenty of bugs. No one has a house without bugs in it, and if you really don't think you have any, then just give your soil a chance to start attracting soil gnats. It will.

What the carns really like are those yummy soft bellied flies. Any fly don't need to be a Blow Fly just some old
gnat will do. Maybe if you set some rotten hamburger by
your plants it will draw the flies?? Did you say the plants
are in or out?

While age is a physiological reality it is also a state of mind! I have known 15 year olds that were more mature and responsible for themselves than 30 year olds! Glad to hear you dig on plants!

my plants are all inside with the plants in the almost full light expect the nepenthes, which is in the bathroom because it doesnt need full sun. so yea. ill be back. im gettin kicked off. ill write again.

With regard to the cobra that isn't a cobra, presumably the Sarracenia 'lady bug' is the same as the one in the link one below. It looks like psittacina with an bit of minor or rubra in it. Possibly some purpurea given that the lid is a little more open than in psittacina x minor/psittacina x rubra. None of the pictures I've seen look particularly big so if there are any taller species in the breeding they've been drowned out. Based on what seems to be in the parentage it should like very wet feet.

so today i took my plants out today in 74 degree weather. nice snuny weather. i put all the plants except the nepenthses in a plastic container of low standing water..in the sunlight. yet again except the nepethses pitcher. so yea. i wonder if they caught bugs.... lol. yea.. i love my plants. and there are still live crickets in the pitchers of the nepetheses, so what should i do?? well thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!

so my nepenthes is growing about 3 new pitchers and the crickets i think are soaknig in the fluid. one pitcher seems to have alot of fluid/water in it. maybe it is water..somehow..but yea. the cobra pitcher is doin find. the roots are growin out the bottom so i know it needs to be repotted. the sundew is sticky and is still growing new flower stalks,(despite my cat eating the 4 other stalks it had) and lastly my venis fly trap is making 4-5 new leaves and heads. so its great! im takin out durin the day and in durni the night cause it gets to 40 in the night. thats chicago for ya. so ill update again in a week or so. damn home depot has to close early on sundays. i have to wait for a chance to buy pots this weekend.. well thanks for hearin me out!

so you're growing your plants outdoors in a sunny location huh? great! that's the way they should be!(except the nepenthes) are you going to post new pics? i surely hope so. the way you describe their progress, makes some of us want to see the plants' new growth. new pics of them perhaps? i started a smaller terrarium(just because i had spare plants) i planted them in a 1 gallon fish bowl
i just had it sitting on top of my "drawing table" there for a while, and i had spare plants in my sunny windowsill.. and though.. hmm.. maybe i should give it another try.. then.. i planted a venus' flytrap(despite of the failing attempt on growing one in a bigger terrrarium) i planted one in the fish bowl along with a drosera adelae.. drosera capensis, 2 pinguicula sethos, and 1 pinguicula moranensis. i will see what will happen within days, i am giving them artificial lighting 16 hours per day.
the 14 watt lightbulb is 4 inches above plants. so they get real bright light. i will post the pic of the terrarium in 2 weeks of improvement. Trap7, yous hould take pics of your plant's improvement. your description of progress was really intriguing. :P

ok so i got the pots, they are about 8 inches and i will soon put them in it. so how much of what should i put, as in dirt and stuff, and whats goes in first? 2. my venis fly trap is flourishing, and every new trap that comes in is bigger then the last, so my little itty bitty VFT is gettin bigger and bigger. and my pitcher is growing 3 new pitchers with more to come. the only plant that is slow to see improvments is the ladybug cobra. its soo slow. so yea. the sundew is still flowering. so does anyone think a 8'' pot is good for each one of them? well thanks.

I like to mix roughly equal amounts of peat and sand and then topdress with LFS. Rinse all soil media well, first. I use a spaghetti collander for peat and LFS and a bucket for sand. 8" is great!
