Bougainvillea lost all its flowers

I bought a bougainvillea - about 5 ft high so fairly established - at the Farmer's Market about a month ago. It was blooming nicely and looked great. I hadn't yet got round to repotting it into a nicer container but it's been on my balcony in full sun from 1pm till sunset (and by full sun I mean full, searing, scorching sun. All I can grow is geraniums, cacti and succulents pretty much. Anything else burns within a a few days). The blooms started to fall off - no big deal - until I noticed this week that they've ALL fallen off and there is no hint of any new ones growing. There are some new leaves growing on the topmost branches, but that's all. I've been watering every few days, leaving the pot to dry out then letting water flow through it. What am I doing wrong? I haven't yet bought any fertilizer either. Is this the cause? Help before I kill it completely! I was really enjoying sitting out there looking at the colorful bloom - now it's just a green tree!
