They do have voracious appetites and can completely defoliate a plant in no time but they are so cool looking. You should see what the Catalpa worms can do to a 40' catalpa tree. They'll strip the foliage within a couple weeks and they do this twice a year! At least you found the little beasties before they ate your entire plant.

I am with Karyn that they look cool. Never seen them when they are so small. You are LUCKY you found them early on. I only had three big once and moved them before they made the out for my dat. Next year they get there own tomato plant. I did not know what these were until Karyn filled us in and what she does for them. I had so many tomato plants. Huge. But it was to hot and they did not produce tomatoes so I pulled them all out which I regret now.
Yeah iit pays to check out your plants daily.

I have had them on my brugs, my Confederate Rose and various other plants this year and they have skeletonized many of my brugs. I have not been nice to them when I do find them> Snip, Snip! Bye-bye!

HMMMM Maybe I need to go take a closer look at a few of mine..LOL I know the slugs have been feasting but some of the damage is more than they can do...It doesn't take them long...

Cool. My worms don't have the stripes or the horm. They are just the exact color of the leaves and don't get terribly big before they make a cocoon. They really did a number on some of my brugs. I never got around to spraying them with the bt so have just been inspecting leaves when I water and cutting off the leaf and smashing them. I pulled one off with my fingers and it was too gross, lol.

What happens to us as we age that makes it next to impossible to touch a bug. Granted I will still pick up loads of creepy crawlers but not all anymore. When I was a kid nothing was off limits.

I was thinking about that too Karyn. No problem handling all kinds of things when you are a kid but then everything gets froos. I get goosebumbs just looking at those hornworms, I hope I never see one in real life. They were hard to find in the pics, they blend in well.

Went outside yesterday evening and went for a walk around the backyard and what did I find.A green little worm eating on my noid orange brug.Well he's gone now!The damage is not too bad, he was not as cool looking as deb's hornworms.

This post reminds me of those Find it pages.. like "Can you find the 8 hornworms in this brugmansia?" LOL. I've looked and looked at the pictures and I could circle 3 on the first picture and 3 maybe 4 on the second.. LOL. How many did yall find?

They are very interesting buggers and I do love the sphinx months, but I hate worms eating my plants.

Ok, I found another cocoon and the stupid batteries on the camera went dead again. I will charge them overnight this time and try and get a pic in the morning. I moved the plant to the front so I can find it again, lol. Its on Mon A'mour.

These little guys do really blend in.

Suzie, that sounds like fun, I should have thought about it but we can still do it.

See how many you can find in each pic. Some are quite hard to see.
Hint: There are the same number of worms in each pic and neither has all eight.

I hope I never get these things on my plants again, but if I do I'll try to take some clear pics so we can actually play this "find the worms" game again. Thanks Suzie for thinking of it. And next time I will have to think of a prize too. :)
