My first time posting a picture ...okay, 3 huge pics

Sorry if I mess this up. This is my first brug. Given to me by my neighbors' daughter. When she gave it to me (I think in mid may) It was a stick with 3 y's and one little root. Now it is 5ft tall with 5ft spread. I have only used compost and organic fertilizer. It had 50 blooms in the third flush. The only way I can describe the smell is perfumie, powerful and addictive.

Okay, thank you Theresa. Haha, funny you should mention that cause I think she was a little jealous. She said hers were nowhere near that size. Of course, hers had to come up from the ground whereas mine had a three foot head start. But, she told me that she has pictures of how big hers have gotten before and they were huge. Thank you for the compliment

First my heartfelt thanks to Anita for her warm and caring comment. It meant the world to me. Much I don't remember back then, and either I or the paper got the detail wrong about the bed/machine. Bernadine had a younger sister, I remember, thought her name was Brenda, didn't sound right, maybe it was Glenda. I have thought over the years what a terrible ordeal it would have been for the family, the caring, the moving to CA and the constant sorrow and stress. I know what it is to lose a child, lost my son in December 2012 under vastly different circumstances, and I will never get over it. It was fourth grade, the fall of 1950. The family moved to Davenport from Buffalo or Linwood, and Bernadine may have started a little late that year. February 1951 was still fourth grade, and I don't think Bernadine returned to school after that Valentine's Day I mentioned in one of my posts. Then was the unsuccessful surgery in Iowa City. Bernadine would have been in a coma for at least six years before she died. There are probably still some here who remember her. It is painful to think that so much has been learned and new diagnostic methods that she could be saved were it to happen now as they are able to save to many heart patients. It was a blessing for Anita to be born the year after her death, and she was no doubt much welcomed and loved, but no child can ever replace another. So thank you again Anita for responding to my old post. And hope I didn't say anything wrong or offensive. About the roses. I had my own website and had an html page full of my "finds" where I found most of them, and how they looked after I got them rooted. The best I can do is post them to my flickr photo stream. Some you can kind of figure out but most will be a jumble. See if this link works to my flickr account. There should be 29 or so rose photos. I tried some months back to upload a couple photos to houzz and failed. No, we pulled all that sand out and mixed in other dirt. It is a brand new bed we just planted about two weeks ago. Our yard seems to be all sand or all clay in many areas so we have to work with it. The sand will end up in the ditch or in the woods.

Hi Sophia, I can give little input on repetition. I don't pay attention to that here in non-winter land. Poor Abraham Darby got suckers from his Dr. Huey root stock after 4 yrs. and I thought they were the octopus canes I'd read about. By the time I figured it out they had taken over. I battle them every year (difficult access). Poor Abe is now only 3 feet high but in my climate grows easily to 6 feet +. Dr Huey is stealing nutrients and water. Large petal packed wafting uber fragrant blooms. Some blackspot in a non-spray garden. Evelyn is in the path of the wind. She has a lovely spring flush (no winds) and sporadic bloom thereafter (regular winds). No blackspot this year on either as yet. Disease wise I'd say they're equal here (very little). Evelyn's blooms are probably the same diameter as Abe's but not as deep. I keep her under 5 feet with pruning. A 7 ft. arching cane appeared after 6 or 8 years. Colors - Abe is usually a pink fully infused with peach-yellow-mango. Full bodied oomphy color. Lasts no more than 3 days in a bouquet. In Sept. mine changes to a warm medium pink, not as peachy as spring but never bluey-pink. A boring everyday color. In Nov. it is back to a prettier peachy pink. Evelyn, ah Evelyn. The pink dawn touched by sunlight? Not pink, not peach, but a sophisticated blend on gossamer satin petals. I think it is the delicate iridescence that captivates. If I could only have one rose bloom a year it would be her. So you see I am terribly prejudiced and pay little attention to the bush.

What an amazing amount of flowers on one little tree! Good job on that. So your tree will overwinter in Georgia (I assume from your name) or do you have to dig it up?

That is misleading. I grew up in GA but, I actually live in VA now. I should have thought of a different name. I chose pride over logic. I wont have to dig it up but, have to cut it down to the ground and mulch it heavily before the first frost. Next spring it will come back from the roots. I'm kinda worried that I will never see it reach this size again.

Oh man but this one has such a great shape!! Happened to me with a few. Last year they looked great...came back with a shape I did not like a lot. I decided to dig out a lot. I want to see THICK trunks!! TREES!!

AND...gosh what would I give if I could give all of my angels that much room to grow!! Every time I look at that also...I say to myself and my angel babies...that I love them...but I just can not do what Brandon does lol

Haha. It aint like I have a ton of room. Actually, The lemon tree, that you can barely see in the white square pot (back yard @ 2 o'clock), was in that spot I potted it up because it froze to the ground and my neigbor gave me the angels trumpet so i figured it would be a good home for it. One day I hope to line the walk from the street to my front door with brugs, gardenias and daphne. maybe wrap them around the whole property With a couple other odd things here and there. Lucy, you should have never told them how good I treat mine. Now they will be mad at you and start demanding more room. They might even wanna leave you and come live with me. dont worry I'll splain to them that you are doin the best you can for them :)

rofl Brandon...I think the Candida Pink showed me just now that it is not leaving me lol but it might just wanna send a sister to ya.

Did you see Mikes driveway lined with Datura's in one of his posts? He gave me the idea to try that next year on mine. To sunny and hot for Brugs and then the deer can eat the dats...sorry dats lol...but not the brugs!!!

I think I need to get busy with the cuttings...waiting for rock oak deer to tell me when she wants me to send the cuttings...then I get em ALL ready lol I like doing it all at once.

Visited Zone 9 Tropicals while in Houston. Very nice. I'll post pics soon.

Thanks everybody. I guess I got lucky. When I get home I hope to make it in time for 5th flush. I will post the pics. The 4th flush was wierd. The east side bloomed maybe a week after the 3rd, then a week later the west side bloomed. DGF sent me a pic of west side in bloom and I can see a million buds for the next flush.
