Front Yard Planter Problems Help!

Hi, last summer we had brickwork put in our front yard and the mason created a nice 20 ft. curvy brick planter that leads from the lawn to the front side of the front steps. I have tried planting annuals which all died and this past spring I planted Icelandic Poppies which are also dead now. I would like to plant something in this planter that is low maintenance and will bloom throughout the year. I really don't want to be replacing the flowers in the planter so often but I am not sure what to plant. Any suggestions. The planter is about 20 ft. in length and 12 in. wide. This planter has full sun exposure. I looked online for some hardy plants and one that I can recall is daylilies. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
