Oh Joyce, my friend. Let me hold you for a minute and tell you how deeply sorry I am that so shortly after Kalei's leaving earth, Meilissa went to be with Kalei too.

I can not offer plant advice but I know it will come and that Meilissa will get a wonderful memorial garden also.

I feel so bad for you i lost a old dog (my soul mate) and then lost are 2year old a month later, it's so hard to deal with double loss. For my memorial garden I try to plant flowers of the same color they were, I hate black flowers but now I'm allways on the hunt for black. The other was yellow so it looks like I miss him more.

Joyce.. I am so very sorry!! My heart breaks for you... I found a Variegated Hibiscus here "Snow Queen".. that the cows didn't eat.. I swear when I bought it it said hardy to z7.. BUT most of the info I found today says otherwise.. You are sure Welcome to it tho if you would like to give it a chance.. The blooms are beautiful.. I also have Pavonia lasiopetala - Texas Rock Rose. It is not variegated but has petite hibiscus looking pink flowers on it.. It is a small shrub and drought tolerant..

So sorry for your loss. Its amazing how much our fur babies become like member of our human families. Treat yourself to a visit to your favorite nursery, and I'm sure they can give you some ideas of new additions to your garden. The pups will be happy with whatever you choose. God bless!

Collielover, I am sorry to hear about your dogs too. That is an interesting idea of planting flowers the colors of the dogs. Both of mine were blond. I do have a couple of yellow flowers on Kalei's garden.
Kylie, I also have the Snow Queen and thought that will be perfect to put on her garden. I looked up the zone last night and it is not hardy here. Mine is in a container and very small, but I love it! It has not bloomed yet. The Rock Rose looks like a great plant but from what I can tell it is not hardy here either. Thank you for offering you are so generous!
Ryan, I would love to treat myself to my favorite nursery! Unfortunately we have very few nurseries left in Tulsa and with minimal selection. How I miss the plant nurseries we used to have. I buy most of my plants on Ebay. Checked my favorite sellers and didn't see anything.
If anyone knows of any good websites to list part sun plants by zone I would appreciate it. I only found a few sites.
Here are some of the plants I am thinking about, but will need to find a source for them.
Acanthus mollis (Bears Breeches)
Brunnera macrophylla (Jack Frost)
BLETILLA STRIATA - HARDY Orchid
Jacobs Ladder variegated (touch of class)

How about an angel or doggie figurine as a focal point in your memorial garden? We have lots of businesses in NE Georgia that do concrete everythings ( I have quite a collection, including some nice art-sy birdbaths)- you could get a little concrete bench to sit and enjoy the garden.

Thanks you guys! I appreciate your kind thoughts! I do have an Angel statue on each of my other two dogs memorial gardens. I haven't even looked yet for one for Meilissa. It has to be just right. I actually can sit on the ledge we have along the back of our house and look at the gardens. They are all next to each other.
Kristy, no need to look for anything. I only wanted ideas as I don't grow much in shade and am not up to snuff on what does well. I did find on Bluestone Perennials site that you could put an advanced search in with your zone and part sun and even flower color if you want. I got some great ideas there. Unfortunately they don't ship until fall and I don't want to wait that long to plant it. I am sure I will do Meilissa proud.

I don't have much shade either so not that experienced with shade plants. If you find something else you are interested in let me know. There is a lot of shade plants that do well in cooler zones but not so many here.

We finally got Meilissa's Garden planted tonight. I decided to plant annuals for now and get the perennials in the fall when they are available. Our little plant nursery nearby was having a 50-75% off sale. I found an angel statue and got some pink, and red Caladiums, Coleus varieties of: Kong Mosaic Kakegawa, Electric Lime, Aurora Mocha, Aurora Raspberry, Wizard Pineapple and a Acalypha Wilkesiana 'Louisiana Red', Pilea..Aluminum Plant, Variegated Fiesta Ole Peppermnint Double Impatiens and more.
The foliage on all of these plants are outstanding and just what I wanted only in perennial. I hope I can come up with some good ones later! I will take pics when it fills in better.

Oh Joyce, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear friends. It never ceases to amaze me how much our pets become so much more to us over the years. It's lovely what you're doing in their memory. I hope it gives you peace and comfort.
