Can an aloe vera recover from root rot?

My aloe vera was drenched in a monsoon, in soil I incorrectly assumed would drain well and now has root rot.

I repotted in better soil and pots.

The center is growing green, but there are soggy spots on some of the leaves. Some of these spots are brown/purple.

Can it survive and grow new roots since I removed some or do I need to cut the whole bottom off and try to grow new roots?
