Weidner's Gardens gets my vote for prettiest nursery in these parts. It's located on a frontage road to Interstate 5 between North San Diego and Oceanside -- Here's how they say to get there -- "Interstate 5 between Leucadia and La Costa exits---We are on the corner of Piraeus and Normandy. [ 695 Normandy] on the east side of the freeway. Piraeus is the name of the frontage road. It only goes between those two exits." Weidners specializes in rare plants, begonias and handing baskets, all of which they grow themselves. No roses (boo hoo). But still well worth the stop. When you are there, ask them for their map to the other unique north county nurseries. Last time I was there, the map was at the checkout stand and free for the asking. There are all sorts of specialty nursweries right in that immediate area -- orchids, fuschias, bromiliads, bamboos, etc. Also, if you are on the 15, stop at Plant World (across the 15 fwy from Tropic World). allison, my husband and I visited the San Diego Rose Show, too. It was the first time ever that I went to a rose show and I found it very informative to see what roses other people grow well here in our area. I was also very impressed by some of the flower arrangements. Two HT roses that I found outstanding in the rose show that you didn't mentioned were the HT Brides' Dream and Stainless Steel. The miniatures 'Alisha' and 'Heather Sproul' were also very lovely. Somehow I don't grow miniatures yet, but that will change, soon :-)! It was interesting to see the David Austin Roses test garden and also the part were the Barona Casino and Resort has its own rose collection, but in both sections they grow exclusively roses, which are arranged in a very "orderly and ridged way", which is just not my thing. But it gives you a good idea which roses grow well in SoCa and it is always good to see a rose in person. In the gardens I found The Dark Lady (DA), Honor and again Brides' Dream very appealing.

Rancho Soledad Nursery is interesting. I like Walter Anderson's as well. (The two are quite different.) There are also many specialty nurseries for certain types of plants, such as Jungle Music or KW Palms and Cycads for palms, and many individuals who grow and sell plants more as a hobby. Kind of depends what you're looking for. People on this forum can very likely identify your plants. Where in San Diego are you located? Coastal or inland?

Hi all, I went to greenmart last saturday. and got A.Hexapetalus, Jasmine, Aglaia, Osmanthus and sweet osmanthus. Almost all the plants no-clue bought. All of them were with flowers filling the car with fragrance the whole trip I got 30 min to do my shopping .Not a lot of time to go through the nursery with kids and family waiting in the car. I forgot to ask them about ceylon cinnamon. I have been looking for this plant for last two years.Came to know that they carry this plant too through one of my other post. I bought all these plants but still sad for making that stupid mistake. Hi bunti, I know how you feel.. Did you get A.Hexa. Those plant are very big. Try to get them so you will have flowers soon.
