general info for propagating succulents

I am pretty new at collecting little succulents...I am using them for planting in my hypertufa bowls and they look great. My question is...if you have a "rosette" type (you know...there are a lot of different ones but essentially they all look flower-like) and they don't make "babies" is it possible to propagate them? And if they send up those long fleshy stalks with a bud on the end, can you pick that and root it? Use rooting hormones? Other?

I'm a pretty experienced gardener in other areas but sure don't know anything about these plants except that there are more and more charming ones!

very grateful for all advice!

Deborah
