Hey all I know I don't post much just so busy doing a million things thought I would share my mini forest of adeniums with you I know there is an adenium forum but I spend all my time lurking here lol.. sorry ahead of time if pictures are sideways

3 different types top are obesum, middle are a arabicum, and bottom are somalense mix for some reason the arabicum drop leaves but are definitely not rotting or do I see any threat

I had a couple seedlings and sadly the cat knocked the pot over and they died. Your plants look great

I have been working on a giant bonsai, miniture old growth, subalpine forest for a few years. My forest is made to look like it's on a windy ridge with the tops of the trees bent a bit to show which way the wind blows. Dwarf conifers seem to work the best, especially those with small needles. Rocks are almost a necessity. They should be placed to look as natural as possible. A good place to put this would be on a peninsula jutting out in the lawn with the scale gradually getting larger as it recedes toward the property line. It seems every year I rearrange things to tweak it as I'm never satisfied. That's the fun part! The link below shows a picture from a few years ago. If you're going for the "leaves on top of stalks" look like large outdoor bamboo has, then go with the lucky bamboo (dracaena). None of the smaller bamboo species will give you that same look, as they're mainly lots of leaves with thin culms (stems). Keep in mind that it will be hard to keep the dracaena small, although cramming dozens of plants together might help with that. I planted a fishtank as a terrarium, and some of the plants in there quickly dominated all of the others. Now I've got it planted with cactus and other slow-growing succulents (photos in link below). Marric, Re Japanese Maples - this surprises me because the Japanese Maple Bloodgood thrives in Zone 5. (but I guess it depends on how close to zone 4 you are). Vil- First of all, be aware that trees suck up a lot of moisture daily and so plants like roses will compete with them for water. Some trees have far reaching roots and can destroy basement,underground pipes etc... In planning groupings, always think in terms of 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9.. etc.. For some reason, it's a good feel. Best you choose 2 of something, 3 of the other, and such... Next, try to envision what those trees will look at ground level from the view of your window, door, porch, patio I suggest taking photos from that point of view, print it and draw directly on those pictures. I take inspiration from such magazines like Garden Design and Fine Gardening to just get a feel of the kind of view that would suit. There should always be one focus tree or grouping of trees. Do you want to create a tight screen or do you want it to feel spacey? Have your privacy and yet not feel as though you have been imprisoned by the trees. Trees need to be planted a certain distance from each other (depends on the tree) in order for them to be healthy. That means if you plant young trees, it will take years to make the place feel like a forest. So add your in between plants for the meantime until the trees are mature. Also, a well planned forestry garden is something that makes you want to discover things. So you walk up a path and then see something else that leads you to yet another surprising corner. - So add the element of surprise. Maybe walk up a path to find a fountain in the corner. or maybe walk up this path and find trilliums and woodland phlox.. or maybe a tiny stream.. - little things like that. You are correctly looking into tree shapes, behaviour and then reviewing each tree that fit that description. I have to tell you that most trees can be susceptible to diseases. While I love service berries because I do have one, they are susceptible to fire blight and to mildew. Still it's a favorite. I love Pagoda Dogwoods. You should look into that. Great as an under story tree. I like pines too because of that refreshing fragrance they give out, but pines when mature can break easily. It also acidifies the grounds around it because of falled pine needles. One thing you would want to consider is to avoid planting so close to your house that a falling branch or tree trunk can destroy your home. If you must plant a tree close to your house, keep it to a small size. I also love junipers -the ones that produce those blue berries. They just look like pearls on a tree. Love it. I also love beech, mature beech have these awesome trunk. Consider too Oak trees for their lovely acorns(if you can stand squirrels and chipmunks). I just love oaks.

Well, this plant is a biennial and is flowering. It will not come back. It will die after flowering. But the hundreds or thousands of seeds it makes, those will keep mullein coming back. You'll want to keep it from dropping seed. Mullein are easy to ID even as tiny plants. Just pull them up - you don't need to "put anything down" like weedkillers that will kill other plants, native ones included, that you do want to keep. FataMorgana

I'm surprised they died I drop these all the time I prune the roots you make it I'm pretty rough lol try again there so much fun and addicting and my favorite part is how every seed is different

Where do you get your seeds? I had someone off of here ship me a couple small seedlings.

I got them from a recommendation on the forum from (adenium center) and I got I would say 95% germination rate and when I ordered he gave me so much extra seeds and one extra package of a different unknown variety it was unlabeled it just said new variety on that pack so I will have to wait and see

If you would like some of mine I'm up for sharing just let me know and when the weather is more stable there yours

Oh my! How beautiful!!! Congrats on the growth, I'm super jealous there so beautiful wish i had one of them for my collection here in MA :-\
I hope all goes well and If you find any room running out i would love to share some space for one of your beauties. Good luck they look great!

Beautiful!! Just beautiful. I sadly lost about 90% of my seedlings ;(.
I would do just about anything to have 1% of your collection :-). Lol. I'm starting some seeds as well / gonna try it again and hope it works. But I have a bad feeling - if you happen to have extra seeds/ or anything :-). Please keep me in mind - Stunning collection!!!!

Chuy what happen???? Looks like u let them dry out or something what did u use to start them? What I have realized is they like to stay moist at these stages not wet but moist and slowly I change my watering habits to alow them to dry a little more each week in between watering.

I gave them soooo much love that I killed them. I can honestly say that the mix was the exact mix that Laura uses (exactly it)!! I spent hours babying them and I think I should have left them alone a bit - but I was so excited being my first time attempting this I was excited to see them grow! Now I am just shocked and sad that almost All of them are gone! :(

Chuy to be honest babying them may have been the death of them in my opinion they liked being left alone and neglected but at they same time they must stay moist.

I'm not sure what mix you use but it looks that it drains to fast for the early stages 9 adenium again that is my opinion
I'm all for fast draining mixes but some time they drain to fast for seedlings and alow the roots to dry up which is what looks what happen to yours

Thanks, but mine has yellowy leaves from the cool Spring temps. I should have kept it indoors longer :-)

I have the same problem with soils sometimes, they drain so fast that even a small spritz from my spray bottle leaks right thru the soil out the bottom of the pot and then I get iffy on if I should water it some more in case more of the water exited the pot then allowed for the plant to drink!!
we all tend to baby our plants in some way or another I still gotta learn to take a step back myself but ive been doing better - I just gotta muster up the courage to separate and repot my baby plants that are still in the same pots with there mothers, its starting to get a lil crowded in a few of my mini 1.5in pots and im not sure they will be completely happy sharing a pot that size with anything growing bigger by the days!

and oh, boy! I cant wait to get your e-mail and receive one of your babies ...(or 10 ;-) ..) lol, I forgot to ad my address so just e-mail me back and ill send you my info if and when you need it! I already cleared a nice lil spot for your plant to go and I will be sure to send you updated pictures!
