It's barely grown in the time it's been around (ten years? Fifteen?) and while it started flowering a couple of years ago it's just plain horrible to look at. I was considering throwing it out because it kept falling over, but then it flowered for the first time (wow!). I think it has the potential to be a nice plant if I trim it down to the segments above the base two, but I'm a little wary of cutting it down that far, especially since it's been repotted recently.
Also, is it a true Christmas cactus or one of the newer hybrids? The lower segments are crab-shaped, but the ones nearer the tip are scalloped and have tiny little spines. The flowers are deep fuchsia and, I think, come straight out from the plant. I can't remember when it flowers.
Thanks.
