The first one looks like a trumpet vine, which puts out very nice flowers almost all year in my neighborhood, and the second one looks like a creeping fig fine, which is great for covering a wall because it is slow growing and does not shed terribly much and therefore does not need pruning all that often. The trumpet vine grows very quickly, leaving behind dead leaves and twigs under the new growth that are difficult to remove and get moldy.

Someone else may confirm whether my guesses are accurate.

Thank you for helping out. It seems the Algerian Ivy is considered invasive. But the cape honeysuckle could be a perfect solution for the spot.

Lots of vines are invasive, but I would not consider Algerian ivy for a second. It's just ugly, but there are lots of other nice, smaller-leaved ivies that if kept with adequate water and trimming look very nice.

Rats love Algerian Ivy as habitat. Not recommended.

Cape Honeysuckle is nice in many ways but it spreads very aggressively by running roots like Berrmuda grass.

What are you trying to accomplish? We might be able to suggest non-invasive substitutes.

I know I will be the lone voice of dissent- I love my Algerian ivy, which covers my 316 foot long, 6 foot high chain link fence. I think it's one of the most beautiful plants there is. At my garden tour this year, a visitor said it was the backbone of the garden and his favorite feature, since it blocks out the ugliness on every side. It requires no water at all, gets no diseases or insects, fills in completely, and doesn't cause allergies.

Drawbacks? 4x a year pruning, bent over double and on a ladder. And we are fortunate to have goats next door or we would also be paying dump fees 4x a year.

I don't care for the cape honeysuckle as a privacy hedge. It got too woody and required too much pruning, which took all of the flowers off. I tore mine out. On the plus side, it grows really fast- faster than the ivy.

I have the cape honeysuckle in a hedge. Some of them are doing well and some look perpetually stressed. They are not full enough to make a proper privacy screen. I've had them for a number of years.

I have almost perfect drainage so it's hard to keep anything moist especially in the hell strips where the hedge is. This fall I will be putting in some native shrubs there which after a couple years should get along on their own. I am thinbking of lemonade berry and sugar bush with perhaps a mexican elderberry and a laurel sumac thrown in for interest. I planted some lemonade berry recently and on my soil that stuff grows like mad.
