Green Scene Plant sale at Fullerton Arboretum

Next weekend, April 22 & 23, is the annual Green Scene Plant and Garden Sale at the Fullerton Arboretum. We've been there the past several years and really enjoyed it. The Potting Shed always has lots of Salvias (and other plants) for sale, and there are many vendors there as well. On the list again this year is Robin Parer, owner of Geraniaceae nursery in northern CA. I buy something from her every year.

And, there's always the Kettle Corn!!! 8-D

Oh I miss that Kettle Corn! I used to go to the green scene every year. My favorite booth was California Living. He sold the nursery, and I live 400 miles away, so I'll have to hear how it was from you!

Thanks for the reminder Jenn. I don't need more plants.....or Kettle Corn calories......but I try to go every year anyway.....and at a minimum I get some Kettle Corn....

After seeing that shot of Huey, Kitty, you can well imagine the excitement people had for the first, cold hardy "door yard rose". Everything as hardy which preceded it was white or pale pink which usually faded to white. With the introduction of Dr. Huey, people in cold climates finally had some 'color' to plant and expect to come back year after year. I think I would have to go before. I get off work at 6, but can probably sneak out early, go home and chase the dog around the yard a few laps and then head over to Neo Monde for a bite (6:45ish), then off to the lecture. I'm hoping to get the names of all the fancy bushes he has. I get so drawn to the perennials I forget to write down the bushes and trees. If "after" is more in line with everyone's schedule then I will eat something while I chase the dawg and then do dessert at Neo.

This post is why I got broadband. And the pics clearly show what trendy hipsters us C&S types are. The most interesting plant to me has to be the Euphorbia ammak next to the Adeniumin in the corner.The E.ammak is white on one side of the segment,all green on the other. I haven't seen that one before.

LOL Mikey, the plants are just a cover for the Kettle Corn purchase. :-) I actually do need to get a few plants: One to replace a Salvia greggii that drowned from too much rain, hopefully some large Pentas, and probably a Geranium or too. I also hope to find a nice garden ornament or two. But, that's it. I don't know if you remember or not, but my hubby and I met you at the plant swap in the parking lot before a Green Scene about 4 years ago. There were just a handful of us who went to the swap, and then we went to the Green Scene after that but we didn't all stick together.

Thanks Soggy, I hope to. I wonder if California Living still has a booth since the nursery was sold.

Unfortuneately California Living sold to a home developer. I loved that nursery, tucked in right at the end of Whittier Blvd. It was a great place, I did most of my shopping there or Blue Hills in Whittier. Even after we moved to NorCal, I would drop in when we were down and pick up a few things. Jim and his employees were always so helpful and nice! I think he and his wife bought acreage out in the desert. Wonder how he's liking his new zone?

I am so happy that for the first time in many years, I am able to go to the Green Scene. We are usually on vacation the week of the show. I am a Friend of The Arboretum and love to go there.

If you join and become a Friend of the Arboretum, they will inform you of all the events. The Monster Tomato sale is always terrific and you will find you can go to the Arboretum on certain weekends and purchase plants.

I'll have to post the actual names of some of these plants later when I can get outside to look at them. We bought...

Salvia oppositiflora (which, it turns out, is actually S. tubiflora, a very similar plant)

Dianthus with blood red flowers that caught the eye of lots of people who asked what it was when they saw it in our wagon.

Two Pelargoniums from Robin Parer (owner of Geraniaceae nursery in northern CA).

.... and four jumbo bags of kettle corn (one of them was for someone else). 8-D

Hey everyone, some of you may already know this place is good source to by plants especially non-standard varities found common in retailers. Some of you already has visited in 2006. I go every year at least once to buy plants.

Click on the Link and it has 3 different plants list for you buy at the Arboretum. Lots of Tomatoes and Peppers.

does anyone know the name of the club that sells tomatos at the green scenn- a lady at my work was asking and I can't remember - something like orange county growers assoc etc
she wants to join I think
