The weed that can't be killed...
Comments (51)3 things. Use Epsom salts instead of table salt with vinegar and dish soap. It fertilizes instead of poisoning the soil. I don' t know high EC water. Please enlighten me. Glyphosate was thought to be harmless to animals, because the chemical pathway it uses in plants doesn't exist in animals. True, as far as it goes. What we have learned since the early days is that there are two chemical pathways in animals that it does affect. This can not only harm us, but it is harmful to our intestinal microbes. This disrupts digestion. I agree that gardeners should try to avoid glyphosate use, but we really need to get it banned for agricultural uses too. It is common practice to spray crops like grains with glyphosate a few days before harvest. This kills the plant, making harvest more efficient with higher yields. Cost effective for the producer, but contaminates our food and is poisonous to the planet....See MoreCan Aegopodium Podagraria Variegatum spread by seed?
Comments (5)Known as Bishops Weed, Goutweed, Snow on the Mountain, and several other unprintable names, this plant is a non native, aggressive, invasive, grower. Depending on where you are it may be illegal to plant this. Here is a link that might be useful: Aegopodium Podadraria spp....See MoreKilling goutweed, Aegopodium podagraria
Comments (4)It's been about 3 days since I used round up on it. I am planning on also cutting it to the ground. Some of the leaves are turning brown, so I assume that the round up has taken some affect. My question is, how long after using round up should I cut it down? My plan was to use round up, cut it down, round up again, cut it down again. I also noticed that there was a patch of what I call "wild strawberries"(not sure what it really is) where the goutweed will not spread. It is on both sides of the "strawberries" but the gout won't spread over it....See MoreHelp- Queen Annes lace has taken over perennial beds!!! Need to get r
Comments (17)I know this is really old, but I just found it now. The pictured plants look nothing like the aegopodium I have in my yard, but I have the variegated version so might not be able to recognize the plain green one. An easy way to distinguish mine from QAL is the height (along with variegation). Aegopodium is quite short - 8" out of bloom, maybe 15" when blooming. Queen Anne's lace is TALL - I have 4 foot stalks and flowers in one of my perennial beds and they are one of the weeds wrecking it. It's fall now and they've gone to seed, so the seeds are sticking to my clothes like crazy. I have found NOTHING so far telling how to get it out of a flower bed. Hand pulling? Yeah, if you can recognize them when they're small. Herbicide? Not when they are in the middle of my irises and daylilies. Mowing? Uh... no. If I can yank them all out this fall - which would be tough because the only way is to dig up all the irises, daylilies and other plants in the bed - I suspect a pre-emergent herbicide might be the best thing, because undoubtedly a lot of seeds will fall into the soil while the plants are being removed. By the way, aegopodium can be controlled by putting metal edging underground around them, as it does spread by roots/rhizomes, but while the variegated variety is gorgeous, plain green would be deadly dull and boring....See Moreianna
