Plant them to be sure you have some, but they may reseed. I haven't had to plant them since the first time a few years ago. Little plants pop out by themselves in my yard.

Mexican sunflowers are one of the top-three nectar plants in our one-acre butterfly sanctuary. I have to stake mine to keep them from blowing over in heavy storms. FYI, I collect many of the seeds just to be sure that I'll have plenty of mexican sunflowers next year.

They are a mainstay in my garden. This year I added Goldfinger. I love the 2 colors together. If you can't find seeds for Goldfinger, I'll have some to share this fall.

I hope that they do reseed. I will dig up the seedlings and replant them. I was trying to cut the bloom when the petals fell off. Now I can't reach my one giant MS. I was trying to pull branches down some to cut them, but kept braking them. Now I just let it go up top. What is a goldfinger?

I agree, this plant is far and away my butterflies' favorite, along with my hummers, and bees. I adore these plants, I wish I'd known about them last summer. My only complaint is all my other plants are being ignored.

I have 3 varieties of Tithonia planted. One is Torch, the tall one. The second is Goldfinger, which is a smaller plant but still red-orange. My yellow flowering one is called Yellow Torch ( I thought it was the Goldfinger).

If you google Yellow Tithonia, you'll get a picture of it. I'll try to get some shots, also. Anyway, I will be saving seeds.
