OT: POTD: Butterball Hibiscus

GOOD morning all.

It is still dark. But here it is going to be a hot one again.

yesterday it had said 102 F for our city.

How is your weather?

Yesterday when I had to work in the yard way past lunch, because I re planted the front flowerbeds, I finally put on a hat. Because the deer came for breakfast again and I am tired of it eating the plants and new growth, I took the water loving plants out and planted Cactus, yucca, cardoon ...well everything that is prickly and hopefully not invites that deer back to feast on the plants.

A day late and a dollar short one would say. I still forget at times or do not take the time to protect myself.

PLEASE do not be like me!!

Have a wonderful Monday and enjoy the Butterball Hibiscus. I sure loved the first bloom. This Hibiscus is not like the others. It has big rounder darker leaves. And does not get that many side branches. Grows more UP. At least for me :-)

What a happy color. That bright yellow just screams summer.

The deer are such a problem here too. They reproduce like rabbits, have no predators and have lost thier habitat to development. They are pretty bold here and don't run away when they see you. They just kind of look at you and continue eating.

Butterball is a pretty hibiscus Lucy.... I hope you can keep them away..It is so hard with deer...They ate one of my fav hosta...:(

Pam lol In this case it is not to late and thank you it is a wonderful WE. I will learn to take Hibiscus cuttings. I just think so many of us have so many different varieties. It is like with the Brugs...you can never have enough. :-) Will I am sure that once your flowers start blooming..you can make US happy with pictures. The one thing I love about hibiscus, just like our Brugs...in the morning you see the bloom in Orange for example and sometimes you can even watch how fast it changes the color to yellow. Or was it the other way around?scratch my head lol Lucy

Bob you are right...I mean if I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would probably think it is a photo montage. Prince Albert I sure would love some seeds to see if they would be happy growers in my yard too. Man you guys can not believe how I was looking for seeds everywhere ha ha ha ha Dorothy I think I am good to go for a few years with POTD roflmao Barb after being at Disney and Universal. I must say for LITTLE folks like my Grandkids, Universal was a LOT more fun and by far not as crowded! Moonie you touched my heart with your message! Thank you so much. Oh the bad luck mostly reveres to the 2 airplane trips there and back. From our Regional Airport the flight was cancelled and we had to take a bus to Dallas. Was only suppose to take 3 hours but the bus driver got lost in Ft. Worth and after 4 1/2 hours we finally made it there. Just to find out that the next flight was delayed also. It was 14 hours before we were in Orlando :-( On the flight back the again had airplane trouble going to the small regional airport with the smaller planes. When they started to postpone the departure time and then looking for volunteers to get of the plane. 9 folks all together, Maddy and I took them up on the 250 dollar Voucher. Night a great hotel and 1000 miles added to the flyer miles. That did not however get us to the hotel faster so I could put the overtired Maddy to bed. We waited almost 2 hours for the shuttle bus to come pick us up. When they started to delay the departure the next morning also, I almost lost it. I went up and told them my horror story and that they better put me on a flight SOON. After we moved to a new gate and a while later we finally were on the way HOME! Oh and that my suitcase was lost on the way there....well Maddy and I started to love sleeping in the nude roflmao. Gosh I hate to remember bad times so I go now and clean the house. Not liking that...it is still a LOT better then remembering the flying experience lol Lucy

I start with the last reply and work my way up again. Kristy I worked outside till little before 9pm. But I finally got the flowerbeds close to the house edged and the grass cut. The one bush trimmed because it was taking all the space and light away from the brugs growing next to it. So did you get your grass cut also? Haase I am smiling. All it takes it just that...participate and you are HOOKED lol...not just with brugs...but with US lol Barb that is awesome! I showed Alexander the bleeding heart when we were at Disney and the way he says bleeding heart...just CUTE!! So when ever he saw one, he said..look Oma, a bleeding heart. So I send him a little plant last week. By now I have it growing everywhere. But if my memory is right...Brenda???? (if it was not brenda..forgive me. It is hard to keep track unless I label them right away)send me a cutting a while back also. So not only do I have my moms growing...but from a GW friend also. Mary a smile @ ya Margaret I am crossing my fingers also that I will get lots of seeds. It germinates really great. For I have like 6 or more of them growing. Kim see it does not take a lot to be part of this great hang out we have. Rock Oak Deer, first I have to say that I really think about MY deer all the time when I see you post ha ha ha I hope you don't bite and eat all my plants roflmao I start my day with watering all the plants from about 6 am until 11 am. I would not make it if I would not water them lol Waiting for rain...gosh I would not have anything LIVING in this yard of mine. Well not quite...I do have a few drought resistant plants lol Siam collecting seeds and you are of course on my list. I meant to send some out already. Made the envelopes and sat there for 3 days organizing them...well...they are still at the house :-( Pam you betcha that I will share seeds with you when I have some!! I feel the same way. No matter how the day is going to be, I love starting it right here...and especially when I can not check in here and there during the day....no breaks ...I need the night cap with you all. April that is SO FUNNY...Guess like that Dorothy is right that it will not hurt if we ever bite roflmao I hope everyones day brought you some joy with your garden. Hugs Lucy

Oh I am good with it. ha ha ha I guess it is just meant to be for me to be HERE lol and not work work work. Even the mails to mai niece are not going through because her mailbox is full. I just sit back and wait till things turn around. Not worth it to drive yourself crazy. After all...you endured being out of your home for SO LONG. How is it going? Lucy

The deer just like my expensive, pretty hostas. They seem to leave the more common ones alone. It figures. lol

Lucy, it was so nice to hear about your morning. I could imagine myself out there planting with you. I haven't seen my deer in a week or more, hopefully they're enjoying someone else's plants. That yellow hibiscus is wonderful! I don't think I've ever seen that color. BTW, I used to pick wild cardoons back in NJ, we'd batter and panfry them. What do you do?

That is a beautiful hibiscus! I love the bright, but golden, yellow color.

It finally got to 100 here today, almost got a heat stroke yesterday trying to finish our walkway. I sure hope there are no deer here, but I could swear I saw hoof prints a few weeks ago.

Karyn this morning a deer and Aisha were nose to nose. The only thing in the way...thank God, was the chain link fence.

I wish the double and triple Brugs would bloom as pretty as the filled hibiscus' do for me :-)

Really going to miss going out there and taking pictures every day when I go on vacation on thursday.

NO POTD for 11!! days :-( But I am sure I will have LOTS of pictures to share after that :-)

YES it is summer now Rigo.

Pam I know what you mean. I almost went out tonight without putting on the hat and sunscreen again. Then I had to remind myself that when the sun hits my head, it makes me feel dizzy.

Diana I did not know that you can DO ANYTHING with the Cardoon except grow it in the garden as a plant.

Thats pretty. I love the yellow. Its really cheery. I have a red one that just has a tall single stem. Its not happy this year. I need to repot it and see whats wrong.

Kristy you mean your tree hibiscus? I sure hope you figure it out. It is so beautiful. I have one that is getting lots of yellow leaves. I even moved it into more sun. Still yellow leaves. In my mind I am picturing this horror LOOK of the yard when I return. Just imagining all the dead unpicked flowers lol
