New Cacti~can I get some help with ID's please..

Hi,

I got a few plants this week, 2 of which have no ID.. Could I get some help with them?

Also,

Can all 3 of these go in a mixed bed with hybrid small aloes?

This one is about the size of a grapefruit, in about a 5" pot.

This one hasn't bloomed yet but will soon, it is about the size of a tennis ball..

And this one came with a name, I was wondering if it's right..I got it at the HD.

(the other two plants came from swap meet)

Gymnocalycium stellatum

Can the little ones on the side be taken off and rooted?

The 1st is Mammillaria candida and the 2nd I don't know. The offsets of the Gymno can be taken off and rooted. But I would give them one more growing season to let them become bigger.
I wouldn't mix them with even small Aloes. Because I think the Aloes need more water (and to a different time) than the cacti.

Ah, you are right of course Ken. I said from the start that we'd have to pull up all five bushes on that side, since they are planted sooo close and they overwhelm our little place. I do hate to hack apart something green and growing, though. Sigh. As for the middle one, it is a small leaf azalea, but it sure is struggling. Looks like some sort of crown/root rot. It is all budded out ready to bloom on the side that is still alive, but the other side is toast.. I could literally yank a section of it up from the root with a good tug. I will have to replace it sooner than later. I'll have to adopt "planting my own future problems" as my new motto, I suppose!

Yes, that's important. I can count on my fingers the only times I have ever had to pull a chemical out of my arsenal to use on pests outside, and lacebugs on my azaleas (planted across the entire front of my house) were one of them. Those particular lacebugs would have not touched a vegetable plant, however. Soap to the rescue. Sawflies on a rare pine and this time I had to go to carbamil base and be extraordinarily careful as it was near my bees. And hort oil on a large planting of purple leaf wintercreeper. Three times out of twenty six years, not bad.

Cakbu, I will have to check out Peach Flambe, thanks. I have Paprika in my garden and mine is much redder. I lost all the leaves from last year but the new ones are coming on strong and are quite pretty.

Post a close up of the Cotyledon orbiculata (I believe) - the leaves look really nice! Edit: I caught a better look in the photo of your ferocactus. I have a very small cutting only and can't wait for it to get bigger.

Gymnocalycium are very variable, but I don't think your third plant is a stellatum, which has fewer radial spines and no central spines.

tj~ I will try and remember to repost when it blooms, your right about it not looking like stellatum.

Yellow flower and offsetting ... could be andreae.
(Not a promise - there are too much variation and hybridization within this genus)
