Anyone Successfully Growing Rhodos in Zone 5B

Eagle_One

I'm a newbie growing rhodos in Thornhill, zone 5b. Every year for the last 3 years when spring comes round and I remove the burlap I find my rhodos are all brown and dessicated and have lost a lot of leaves. Leaves, flower buds and branches - the whole lot are dead.

None of my rhodos have lasted more than 2 years. I was optmistic when 2 of my rhodos survived into their second year only to die this past winter. I buy my rhodos from Home Depot and Sheridan and they are rated for zone 5. I plant them with lots of peat moss, compost and black earth in a SE facing garden. So far I've lost at least 4 rhodos.

I'm posting because of my failures and also because I saw a Mark Cullen gardening show this morning about a person who is able to grow rhodos very successfully in a zone 6 region without much care.

Should I give up on rhodos and move onto something else or is there someone out there who can give me good avice on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
