Your Aeonium is going to need direct sun and lots of it. They're sun-loving plants and get leggy if they don't get enough sun. I would put it outside as soon as the weather is staying above freezing at night. Put it into a bright but not sunny spot to begin with, then move it over a few weeks closer and closer to a full exposure until it's getting all-day sun. Too fast into the sun can cause sunburn, but once it's there, it will look like a million bucks! Aeoniums naturally shed their lower leaves, but watering carefully will minimize leaf loss. Let it dry out between waterings, but don't let it stay dry too long. And don't fertilize too often - that can cause legginess as well. As for your Sans, you can move it up to a larger pot size, just don't go much over an inch larger than the rootball. Just be a little more careful about watering - Sans are really prone to rotting if you water too much, so my philosphy is that they can almost not be too dry. Almost! I've lost a couple because I overdid the "dry" thing, but most thrive if they're allowed to get dry and stay dry for awhile before watering. You're far more likely to lose them to slight overwatering than to excessive underwatering. Keep your Sans in a bright but not sunny spot. And don't ever let it get too cold! Colleen, There are two schools of thought on this, or at least more than I'll talk about, probably. That particular branch looks like one that the plant might naturally shed anyway, but the chances are that as a lateral branch close to the soil, it put out an extra root to gain greater nutrition and have another anchor to sustenance / permanence. You need to worry when you see those roots in profusion higher up on the stem - that usually indicates rot occurring in the immediate vicinity below the roots. In your case, however, the branch looks happy and I think it's just an opportunistic rootlet (aren't they the prettiest sort of pink, and that colour's consistent in the all of the Crassulaceae, New World, Old World, it's out of this world the rooting they do. I've come across Kalanchoe cuttings that I had forgotten for six months under a potting bench and, because they had got some water, they were just a mass of roots and leaves). Thanks Brad! I live near the ocean in South Carolina. It's still in its little nursery pot. I didnt want to mess with it or its roots because I though it might be dormant or about to go dormant. I have it sitting on the ground on my patio, but shaded under a chair. How do you water, by the way? Is it ok to kind-of dip it in a bowl of water once a week or so until it's wet all the way through? I don't completely submerge it but only up to right below the top of the pot before I pull it out. (It seems to retain more of the water that way) Thanks again!

Hey Norma. I'm in zone 9 near Stockton, CA. We're going to get an anomoly of a storm tonight but it will be short lived. aside from that we've been seeing sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 90's and around the mid 60's for lows. My zone is right on the fringe of this plants frost tolerance so I'm going to be protecting it during the cold season. I'm just not certain of the correct way to prune this and I obviously want to give this plant enough love to flourish. On that note when you prune would you clip just below the roseette (where the red horizontal line is in the pic below) or down by the base of the branch (where the red X is). There is also a little tiny cluster (red circle) that looks like it may have started last blooming season and just stopped. Think I should just leave it or remove to give it a chance to start over?
