Poor Kylie, I got one of those emails too and was going to do a trade with this person for some spider lillies but since I didnt know her I waited for her box to come first and it never did and I haven't heard from her since. Its a shame you have to distrust people like that.

I get emails all the time but most are asking for trades. I'll look up their posts and check the R&R forum. If all looks good sometimes I'll trade. I've met some nice people that way but the ones that want something for nothing just turn me off.

I wounder if this is the reason that alot of the original members have stopped posting. I have seen some strange postings lately, people asking for just one brugmansia, they have been trying for years to get one???? They obviously have a computer, how can that be??? Barbra,

Barbra... I agree, if you have a computer, how in the world can you be brugless ? They sell them every day on ebay. It is a turn off. The whole concept is " exchange ", not "what can I get for postage". I just hate it when I see "will pay you postage" for plants. Well heck, I would like to get every thing I want by paying "just postage"..LOL

Well I owe some of you somethings and they will be going out very soon. I've just been too broke to afford the postage.

I think I have sucker written on my forehead or something. Because of my circumstances I started asking for the postage up front and I've not got one person to send the postage so that tells me all I need to know. LOL

There was a ton of people that emailed me wanting all kinds of irises. These people just came out of the wood work.

Another funny thing is alot of times what you get in return you could have gone out and bought a lot cheaper. LOL Then sometime you get people like Karyn, Edna, Eloise, Kylie, Kristy,Brenda, and a few others who send you half of their plants. LOL

I have to ask, How many of you post on the Forum regarding your trades. I do once in awhile but it's such an effort for me I don't do it as much as I should. Most of the people here that post all the time are pretty good to deal with. Now, those of you that I owe something please email me and let me know exactly what I'm suppose to be sending you. Remember I'm forgetful so it will not offend me for ya'll to jog my memory.

I don't think I told ya'll we had a tornado here Wednesday night. Lots of trees down and one was on my car. The good Lord up above took care of me. The tree was a huge Walnut that had already damaged 3 or 4 cars in recent years. I had begged George to cut it down. Now I'll just have to beg him to finish cutting it to the ground. It's just a huge stump sticking out of the ground now. I forgot to tell you it didn't do any damage to my car. It was just laying on top of it. The last time I had a tree on a car was when one fell across my daughters car and cut it in half. The top of the car was sitting on the floorboard of the thing.

We had lots of limbs down and blown all over the place, pots turned upside down, fruit trees laying on the ground along with the corn. It looked like one of those crop circles or something. It was weird to say the least.
No lifes were lost and that's the most important thing. Stuff can be replaced.

Happy Gardening Ya'll. I'm going out to clean up more of the aftermass.

I have an achillea to send Mike and I think I was supposed to send someone else something so remind me. I only do my mail outs all in one day and by the time that day gets there I forget what all I am mailing too, lol. I usually make a list but I figured it was only a couple of things and I would remember but guess what. I didn't remember.

Marian, you hit it right on the head, they just come out of the woodwork. Its like you have a nursery with potted plants, ready to mail out. I think some people, don't realize all the work involved, you have to dig up the plants, tearing up your plants in the process. Not to mention the weather, and the postman. I agree with you Marian, sometimes its much cheaper to just buy the plant you want, instead of trading for it. Barbra,

Kylie, I am sorry to hear people are hounding you. People can be so rude. If I were you, I wouldn't trade w/anyone I didnt know and trust, and just delete those gimme gimme emails when they come in.
I have to say that it also really bothers me how people see an offer posted, come out of lurking just to get in on it, and then are never heard from again.

I know when I was a newbie, I kept my trade list up to date and chock full of goodies. There is a search feature that will allow someone to look for traders that have or want certain plants and seeds. After being burned more than I care to admit, I took my trade list down. That is where most of the "out of the blue" people came from. (at least in my case, lol) It's a shame though. I've certainly made more good trades than bad, but the bad ones can be really really ugly. ~~Georgia~~

Wildflower: Thanks for posting that. Maybe it will attract some attention and some folks will be ashamed of themselves. I hate begging - it totally turns me off. I think the fun is in the trading. I love looking at my plants and being able to point out where I got what and remember that special person usually in another state that shared with me. I hope they do the same when they see my plants or grow out my seeds. As much as I hang out here, I actually have very few things from anyone on this forum. I have a few things from Wildflower, some Seeds I grew out of Karyns, some cuttings from Recipesaver2... and thats it. I come here for information, the fellowship, and to see what everyone is up to... not for free plants.

I don't mind sharing things I have extra of and especially with people I talk to on the forum but I get emails too from people I have never heard of asking me for things. If it is a trade I have started waiting til I get mine first then send out theirs. If it was me initiating a trade I wouldn't mind doing that but it seems to stop some of the ones that weren't really planning on sending their part out.

I try to post on the R&R forum but am not great about keeping up with it. I do put forth the extra effort to post positive comments if I've had a good trade with someone who has little or no feedback. I know that I do check R&R before trading with an unknown individual. If someone is a good trader it's nice to know and if they are rotten that's good to know as well.

You should see the number of people that that I don't know from Adam that come out of the woodwork during brug trimming time. I rarely post anything for postage anymore and will write that I want to trade even though I'm really not looking for anyone. It cuts way down on the number of "gimmes".

You can also talk to your doctor about increasing the dosage so you can break the pills in half. It can't be done for capsules and there are some meds that aren't recomended to break the pill in half but it is worth a try. You really have to watch some medicines aren't available in generics in all strenths for instance prilosec, the 40mg cap is not avail in generic but the 20mg is. Getting your doctor to write for 20mg twice a day is sometimes cheaper than buying over the counter, or at least for me it is. Hope all that helps.

Mary they do that for one of My husbands meds.. Saves us quite a bit ...I didn't even think of that. Most Dr.s are willing to work with you if they know your circumstances..Good Job Mary!!!

Thank goodness I don't have to pay for Rx's. I'd be S.O.L. if I did. My monthly meds total about $2000 and that's for generics. Costco doesn't carry any of them either. It's really sad that people have to chose between their meds or groceries and utilities. I realize that pharmaceutical companies put billions into R&D for each med and most never even make it to market but there's so many ways that they could save money. Just look at the way samples are packed. These big fancy bottles with 4 pills in each. Just by sticking them in a blister pack they could save millions.

Since I am a relative newbie, I sent them to you on March 25, pending your approval for the trade. I hope the 4 brugs are doing well for you. The ones that I kept have all leafed up beautifully and I am eagerly awaiting my first ever brug flowers...LOL!!

As a newbie to brugs and the brug forum, I have received many cuttings in exchange for postage. However, I wait for the offer to be posted.

My cuttings are doing well. Since the members here were so generous, I hope to have some rooted cuttings to share in the spring. Having much experience with hurricanes, I will first offer any extra rooted cuttings to those along the Gulf Coast that were hit by major storms in 2008. I hope this would not offend anyone as I would open the offer to anyone after 2 weeks. (This, of course, is all based on my ability to root these cuttings!!!!!)

If anyone sees a problem with this plan, please let me know.

I lost all of my surviving peppers and several other plants in Gustav. Although we only had tropical force winds from Ike, I lost even more then. Then, several inches of snow has left me with even less. I must say that most of the damage from the snow was to trees.

Marian - I am so sorry to here about the tornado. Did you lose any special plants? I am glad that your car was undamaged. I am even happier to hear that no lives were lost. Were there people injured in your area?

Werewolf I'm talking about about emails from people I don't know who would ask for stuff and expect me to pay the postage and not offer anything in exchange. I've sent plants and seeds to a number of people and the ones I know I often don't ask for postage but I'm certainly not sending someone I don't know a package unless they pay for shipping!

I am so taken back that out of the blue...someone would email anyone and ask for something. WOW! I'm a little surprised to say the least. Unfortunately, there are some awfully unscrupulous people out there. Crazy!

I don't have a problem with sharing anything that I have with others and I definitely don't expect something for nothing.

I don't mind emails from people asking nicely if I have extras of something and have met a number of people that I chat with online that way. It's just the ones that email you and either want you to pay for everything or act like they are doing you a favor or are just downright rude that p*ss me off.

WW sounds as tho you are a very generous person.. I send out packages almost every week.. some are trades others are for postage and many becoz I want to..But I don't like it when someone starts scouring forums and threads just looking to see what someone else has and sends ya a note asking for it like you just should just send it.. and Honestly if someone thinks that is rude or wrong.. I really don't care anyway..That's Life!
