Where's the Brugs?? Which ones do you have blooming?

Hey has anyone else noticed there's not many postings or pictures of your brugs? I'm dying to see ya'lls photos of certain ones and I'm being left to just google them. What's up with all that?

Show me your brugs folks and I'll show you mine!

Except for ones that were kept in the GH over the winter it's still a bit early here. I do have one that's planted in the yard that's just getting buds but that's all for me.

Marian, mine are all so little still since I just started acquiring cuttings in the fall that I am honestly doubting I will see any blooms this year. That will be a real bummer.

I got some really nice ones from someone on ebay, Sommergardens was the seller. There are a lot of hybrids you don't see in the nurseries. I mean, double and triple flowers. I'm really pleased with his service, and with the plants he sent me. They can take the heat - our temps go up to about 100 or more every summer and they don't skipe a beat. It's the winter cold that will freeze them to the ground, at least in an area that has a mild winter. That first one is really something! They don't get that large in areas with a winter cold enough to freeze them back.

I think that's so beautiful you want to make these memories for your child! Knowing my own decorating and reading the above responses I see a common thread of choosing which holidays and how to decorate coming about organically. Like your child will be making decorations in preschool, and now that you've decided you want to do this your eye will start noticing others' (inc. shops') decorations and what appeals to you. This forum has also really helped me with SUPER ideas about decorating. Like a few years ago kswl had that incredible slideshow of her home at xmas and I fell so hard head over heels ... it totally inspired my nutcrackers (for xmas). And another generous participant posted her beautiful gumdrop tree (again for xmas) which got me going in that candy direction, and I'll tell you I RAN with it! I don't even like (to eat) candy yet I've found it the most magical, perfect way of decorating the trees. Thank you GW! So we're multiethnic (I'm 1/2 Jewish, 1/2 WASP and my partner is 100% Shinto Buddhist Japanese) and we have fun with it. I love love love our Hanukkah waterglobe collection and growing collection of dreidels. I love all the koinobori (carp windsocks) we have for Children's Day (May 5th). I find that for many holidays my decorating effort extends to color-appropriate candies in the living room -- like red & silver kisses for Valentine's, pastel pastilles for Easter. I am NOT a jingoist but I do love red white & blue bunting on the 4th ... on other people's houses. I'm not that motivated, I guess, although this year we did line our front walk with stars and stripes pinwheels. That was fun and made me really part of our sweet little town's festivities. We have Japanese lanterns up in the backyard so they're already handy for Obondori (another Japanese celebration honoring your ancestors), and then because I am a wannabe Mexican I have tons of fun with Halloween and my calaveras / catrinas. My 6 y.o. is *delighted* with the enormous fuzzy tarantula we affix to the outside of his window each year -- the kids love it. This year I went bananas at Target and purchased a string of jack o lantern lights and put them in a tree, and then a cobweb made of orange lights which we plastered on the living room window. Which rulers do you have? Which do you use?

Over the last couple of yrs. I've had to buy rulers for classes: the 8 x 24, then 12.5 square, then 3.5 square then 4.5 square (I'm not doing angles yet). Despite all that, I revert back to the same rulers I used as a teenager (I'm 51): 2 x 18, clear lucite, marked in 1/8" (comes marked or red or turquoise). My latest pair of the last few yrs. once I started rotary cutting, I got one w/ a metal edge. I'm just sooooo used to the 1/8 mark & the almost automatic 1/4 that's so easily marked w/ these. Just last night I opened my first pack of sandpaper dots (had for couple of yrs.) after a small slip cutting around the 4.5" square. Turns out they're great! They're 3/8" in diameter w/ some adhesive backing, makes a BIG difference. From the LQS, comes 36 in a pack, called Fabric Grips (for $2.40). Try 'em! But now that you all have reminded me I own a 6 X 24, that's what I've needed for the last 3 wks doing homework for a color class, working all in 4.5" squares. Have to make 4 separate quilts, each 6 x 8 repeats finished at 4" square. I;ve cut individually around the square, yikes! Yes, NOW I remember the larger rule. Can you hear me smacking myself in head (you know, like the V-8 commercial)?

Wood vs Tile in a Kitchen which one do you think? I have to decide

In a perfect world, I'd go with wood. It looks great and feels warm underfoot, is more forgiving to the knees and hips, is less likely to break a dropped dish, and ties into the adjoining rooms in such a way that everything looks seamless. In a perfect world, I'd go with tile. It just says "kitchen", is available in so many lovely renditions, cleans up more easily than any other kitchen flooring, and is almost impossible to destroy. However, since we don't live in a perfect world, I'm thinking of plain old-fashioned sheet laminate. My kitchen is small enough that no seams will be necessary, and nothing is cheaper. It's warmer and more forgiving on the joints than tile. It's easier to clean and more durable than wood. I deem it the best compromise of all options.

have a couple of NOID blooming and Creamsicle...first flower - should be complete tonight...will try to get a picture if it 'finishes'. this morning it was all white...I expect the color to deepen this evening. Don't you wish there was some way to prolong the bloom??? :)

What are you talking about Daniella? I just started growing brugs this fall too and I have about 6 that are blooming or have a bunch of buds on them. If you will be nice to them, they will be nice to you. LOL What zone are you in? So far none of mine that I planted have died. They have doubled and trippled in size and I'm thrilled as punch.

I thought I was going to be able to learn how to post pictures and attempt to put some on tonight. Unfortunately I don't even remember my password on Photobucket and I can't get them to respond to my emails so I guess I'll have to forget about ever being able to post the pictures. I think that' s why I gave up the last time. Too darn much stuff to have to remember for someone as old and forgetful as me. ( sticking out bottom lip and pouting!)

I dont have any blooms yet either, but I do have a few buds and I have a passie with a few buds on it too.

I had a bloom. This is Miss Emily McKenzie. She came with a large bud and in about 2 weeks it opened. We were having some strong winds, so she was brought in for the night. Her color actually turned much darker than it was in these pictures. I think she was relieved when I finally cut that bloom off so she could grow a little. It was bending her tiny little stem. LOL. Thats the only one I've gotten so far. Everything else is still trying to groooooow.

Daniella, All of mine but snowbank bloomed last year & some of them were little puny plants not even as big around as a pencil. Even the one I left out in 20 degrees overnight came back, grew to about 4 feet & bloomed like crazy. I'm a zone colder than you so if I can do it, you can too. Mine are just planted outside & starting to grow leaves. Just keep them watered, fertilize the heck out of them. I feed mine 2 to 3 times a week if they are really growing (not yet). As long as they look like they are happy with it, keep feeding them. They'll grow like weeds... until you get aphids or mites or slugs or some strange disease or...

Marian, you did? I thought you'd been growing them longer! Did you start off with cuttings or plants? All mine were cuttings. I'm jealous. I left a reply on your post about the photobucket situation.

LOL, Maybe I am just being pessimistic (sp?) cuz I am impatient and want them big and blooming NOW! I only see leaf growth on mine, no upward growth. I have given them MG 2x and fish fert 1x, o and Epsom Salts 1x since I got them planted in the ground, and sunken pots..but we have had SOOO much rain that I havent been able to feed them.

I already have the pests :(
I am battling the slugs..every time I try something new it worked for a couple days then there'd be soo much rain that it would stop working.
I went out a few nights in a row and was picking the lil tiny baby slugs off by hand, but I can't stay out there all night. Also spraying for aphids, black & green ones. No mealy bugs yet, but I'm sure they're on their way. Why not? Join the party!
O Hey..I thought slugs drown?? I was throwing them into the pond to see if my KOi would eat them, and the lil b@$t@rds would sink down to the bottom, then climb up the inside wall of the pond and get out!!!!! What is THAT?!?!?!
I'm thinking maybe I should put a bubble around each brug..
Just like the Boy in the Bubble, lol.
I just feel like I will never see a bud let alone a bloom. My Dat buds, and my gloxinia buds all got eaten by something. So depressing.
