OT:POTD : Look who loves Passiflora's

I would have been here earlier, but I slept in because I stayed up way to late.

GOOD DAY everyone :-)

Then I was out fighting off THOSE:

I know that last year I did not have those. So I wonder if they only come and eat passiflora's? I sure hope that they did not eat the little seedlings down to much before I discovered them. Snipping off the leaves and throwing them over the fence.

Anybody know what they are? Do they turn into something? Like the Black Swallowtail caterpillar :-)

That looks like a Gulf Fritillary Caterpillar. A good one to keep, the cats depend on the passiflora as their chief food source. I could send you some cuttings of my blue passionflower (caerulea) to use as food for them if you want and you could move them off of your vine and onto the one you want them to eat. Let me know if you'd like cuttings.

Pam Oh THANK you :-) I just looked at your link and having seen that butterfly flying around the past few days....it can eat all it can find :-) I LOVE butterflies. Now I wish I would not have dumped them across the fence...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr@me

I really need to learn to ASK first and then DO :-( Heck I would even go BUY them food ...I think IF and hopefully they come back or more are born....that the plants I have will be big enough for them to have enough to eat.

Thanks for the offer though. I am just not sure if I could root it. lately not doing good in trying to root things.

Good morning Lucy. No hangover here! But sure have a headache! Was planning on a quit night at home. Setting outside by the fire with DH. Ending up spending the night in the ER with HB having chest pain. Said they thought it was form stress but wanted him to stay. But the hard head checked himself out! He is going to follow up with his heart Dr. Anyway, hope your new years eve was better. Keep me and him in your prayers. I sure hope the worst is over and we have a better year ahead. Mom should be coming home this week. Thanks for the prayers. She is doing so much better. Up walking around, eating and all. Still needs a little walk on the stairs. But getting there. Siam I know, cause Hubby will not be after I get back and they are dead rofl. Just kidding. I do my best every day and with the heat increasing...it is even hard for me to keep em all happy. Maddy and I sure will have a great time. I wish I lived closer to the other 2 grandkids. But not complaining. Pam my neighbors are all sickly and up there in age. I mean really up there. You know, like a little boy says to mommy at the store...look mom, this lady is REALLY old. Well...I guess through out life....when you look at someone who is a LOT OLDER....you just can not help yourself lol I like this Lantana too. Have a few other colors. But for Amadeus' resting place I found a white one at Lowes and not a plain purple one that I have already. But purple with pinkish white blooms also. Lucy

Bob, there are way to many to pick just ONE BEST picture :-) Kylie, I am SO busy with trying to get everything ready for the vacation....Thinking about you a lot and the great time we had. Kasha what a sweet *reward* for posting the POTD for everyone and hoping that it will do some good to at least ONE of you each day. I had the pleasure of finally meeting Princealbert and his sweet wife Betty today. What a treat it was! One day I really want to meet so many of you, that if ever there will be a nationwide get together...I will be there. Until then...I have to start with smaller get togethers like swaps lol Caren I am glad you like them too lol Who needs tea right? lol Pat so glad you had time for tea. I was so hung up in downloading scrapbook things from a PSP group, that when princealbert called...I had to tell him that I am still not dressed roflmao Yes it is one of the new hibiscus' I bought in spring from a co op. they finally started growing a while ago and have shown their beauty to me a few times. Wait until you see that black dragon photo!! Eloise most of these hibiscus' have very thick roundish leaves. Not really lots of them on most lol. Ingrid what a joy it was to hear from you again. Sorry that it is so cold there. But just remember what beautiful temps you are coming back home to :-) I would not worry about your angel. It always works out. Even when at first you get a shock...like I did twice after coming back from Florida...but everything is fixable!! One way or another. Tim do I smell a possible trade I can share with you after all? I've had some cuttings in water for two weeks and they are just now getting tiny hair roots. The plants are still growing though. My hubby accidentally mowed a huge piece off. He doesn't have lawn mower privilege anymore âº On second thought, he probably planned it that way!

I started growing passies to attract Gulf Fritillary caterpillars. I didn't get the caterpillars but did become obsessed with passiflora vines. lol Most of the red flowered varieties are toxic to the caterpillars.

That would have made more sense! Actually, I am losing weight on purpose and mowing gives me some extra exercise.

Karyn for me it is the other way around. I would love to see a passie bloom lol But I do love butterflies a lot. So if the red ones are toxic...do they still eat them? :-(

Pam I am with ya. I love gardening and during winter you can tell that the exercise is missing.

They will lay their eggs on the red and a yellow called citrina but the caterpillars will die off before maturing. Lady Margaret is one of the few red passies that are safe for Gulf Frits.

I didn't realize how much I would enjoy passion vines after buying that first one. Now about 25 varieties later....lol
