The caerulea and incarnata can be planted and left in the yard year round. The incense will need to be lifted in the fall or grown in a container. Plant in well draining soil in a sunny spot. Once established keep them on the dry side with infrequent feedings. I feed mine every 6 weeks, if that. Added potassium seems to increase flower production. I dig some chopped banana peels into the soil about every 4-6 weeks. You'll probably get blooms this season. The caerulea and incarnata will spread via underground runners.

I have the ones growing from seeds you sent me. They are all in pots..should I have planted them in the ground and dig them up in the fall or will the still grow to their full potential in pots?

oxmyx. I agree with karyn on her advice and a word to the wise. The need a strong support as if given the right conditions they can grow upwards of 35 feet in one season.
They will only bloom on new growth so cut them back! At one time we were up to 36 varieties here and soon learned which ones would take over. We figured that Clemmies were better as they can go straight in the ground if you want to garden upward. Rich soils, full sun and trellis!

The cerulea can be a nighmare if you don't keep it in check. I started some from seed a couple of years ago and they grew rampant. They crawled all throught a hedge and over a large portion of out lawn. I couldn't pull myself into cutting it back because it was chock full of flowers and fruit (which can be somewhat tasty with enough heat) so i just left it alone. The patch of lawn was completely shaded out and eventually died. When all of the flowers and fruit were gone, i ripped all but one vine out, still i had saplings coming out all over within a ten foot radius. Right now, the one i have is once agian growing through a hedge, but im more cautious about keeping it in check.

Daniella the variety I sent you isn't hardy so it will have to come in once the temps start dropping. I sink some pots in the yard and others just stay in planters. The ones I sunk really went nuts, like KHT said some were well over 25'. I just cut back the vines before I lifted them. I did allow them to go semi-dormant last winter. I usually keep them going but space was an issue. I did lose a couple because I neglected to water them. I think I'll keep the tropical varieties growing year round from now on.

Just a short story for you, I gave one to a older friend whom put it on a fence, one by his house. He had the 100' of chainlink fence covered, it grew up his historical house and he refused to cut it back as he thought it was so pretty and green. Long story short, this vine took over the house and they had to take the house down as it grew inside too! : )

Barry nobody can tell you that. It all depends on the conditions. It could die 2 weeks after you plant it too. I said that they will spread and you will probably get flowers. KHT told you of hers that was over 35'. We're not clairvoyants. Plant it in a location where there's room because of their potential size and see how they do.

That's the attitude Barry! I do hope they bloom beautifully for you. I enjoy passifloras as much as brugs. They really are beautiful and there's so many different varieties.
