Introducing myself.....

Hey y'all! My name is Tammy, I am in NC (by way of NJ).Married.Children are all grown and on their own. Just me the hubby and out cat Tuna.

I love gardening especially plants that flower. My passion is roses, but I have a habit of becoming easily addicted to other plants. Like the Japanese Morning glories and the Clematis addiction I have also aquired and now Brugs too.

I first became aware of Brugs at a farmers market a few years ago. I bought a Super Nova. The guy that sold it to me told me it was no problem to plant it in the ground. Failing to explain that it would have to be dug up before the frost hit. So that one I had only one season. After that I bought a no name pink and a no name white. The white one bloomed really weird...the blooms were all torn up. I asked someone about it and they told me it was virused and I should dispose of it and I did. Only to find out later that it was a shredded white and supposed to be that way! Two years ago I bought Golfito and at the moment it is the only one I stil have. I took cuttings so I have a few now that are rooting...

I am watching several on Ebay right now too. Plus I have some that I am drooling over at the Seed Sprout site.

I really like learning about them too. I just found out that some bloom heavier than others, and some have shorter flush cycles etc....

Welcome, Tammy, understanding and growing brugmansia will keep you busy for years to come!! ....and the more you acquire, the more exciting it is. Welcome aboard and enjoy your new hobby.

Hi Pat, I am learning about this whole seed growing thing. When you put your small plants under lights...do you worry about temperatures in your garage that may fall to 45-50 F at night? Some say cold nights stunt growth. I prefer to do my lights in the garage...which is warmer than the February nighttime temps...which might get down to 40 or so.

Hello, Juanita! Why no responses here? Too bad. I love your post. I got into photography while taking pictures of my roses and daylilies and garden and now am doing bird photography. It is a lot harder than flowers but I love it. I took a photography class last year but it was a bit advanced for me at that time. Now I have a different camera, a Nikon, which I use for everything but birds. My Canon SX50 can't be beat for birding so I am sticking with that for now. I just may take the Photoshop class as I need to do better with it. Hope someone else sees this post and responds. Kathy near Sacramento

Welcome Suzanne, my name is Anne from the southern most city in Canada which is even south of the US border. haha when I was a kid I wanted to be called Anne Louise Lulabelle. What size pulls are those you used? They look like 8". How big are the drawers that he said needed 2 pulls? I was hoping to do all 6" pulls on my drawers. I love your hardware so much I think I am going to return my unused hardware and go with the ones you used. Another project to tackle but who's counting anymore?!? Lol. So, my largest drawers stacks are 28" wide (30 inch cabinet). If you see this could you suggest what size handle you think that would need? Thanks in advance!

Hi Tammy,
There's several varieties of plants that I've kind of gone overboard with. It's not hard and the problem is you keep finding new ones to feed the addiction. It's too bad you got bad info early on but I think we've all BTDT. You might be able to winter brugs over in your zone if you plant it in a well draining protected site and give it a good mulching over the winter. I wish I could keep them inground year round but I'm half a zone too cold. Seed Sprout and Country Garden are like drugs for us brug addicts. lol

Thank you for such a warm welcome. The forums actually help to fuel my addictions as it is really fun to have people to chat with, about something in common. I keep the brugs and the cuttings in pots over the winter in the garage. I have tried planting them in the ground but they don't seem to grow or bloom as well that way so I keep them in pots during the summer months too..
I am in the triad area just outside of High Point/Greensboro. Basically central NC.

Hi Tammy and welcome to the forum. I was actually watching your Golfito on ebay because you are so close to me. I'm about 20 minutes north of Winston and work in High Point so we'll definately have to get together and do some swapping. I'm so glad you're joining us!

That was the first time I had any cuttings to put on ebay. I hope I packaged it well enough. I haven't heard anything from the guy that won it yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I really wasn't even sure if I took cuttings the right way but so far all the ones I did take are rooted rather nicely. I had planned on taking them to the plant swap last week but I was unable to go. Oh well...

Hi, Tammy. Welcome to the forum! Please share some pics of your Golfito with us. I haven't seen it before and I am absolutely not looking at ebay until I get all my beds finished and planted, lol. I can't seem to keep my finger away from the bid button once I look.
