For Heaven's Sake BE CAREFUL with Spanish moss. I grew up with the stuff in Florida. If you get it off the trees it will probably be full of chiggers!!!!! itchy, itchy, itchy. If you use it--just use the sterilized kind, don't be tempted to bring a bunch back from your vacation in Florida!!! By the way, if anyone needs a really good water retaining mulch (especially if the pot is too full and regular mulch keeps washing out) use your old liners from hanging baskets. They probably ought to be put in boiling water first to kill any "uggies" in 'em but boy does this material hold the water in--I find it very useful. Betsy

Bob have you considered growing the plants in baskets with a rock medium? I grow in a g/h and will not water anything more than once a day either. Here is the only picture I have that almost shows you how I grow the vanda family. Asco. miniatum The original plant was in a 4" vanda basket, roots dangling long and proud but I couldn't get it to bloom. I soaked the roots and placed the entire thing in an 8" basket. It is doing great as is my only big Vanda, tricolor. When the roots escape, I eventually guide them back into the basket. Brooke

Yes, it is very healthy looking spanish moss. Spanish moss is also fragrant when it blooms with single small yellow-green flowers appearing in leaf axils at the tip of strand.

Tillandsia usneoides, Spanish moss, is not a terrarium plant. It is a part of the grayish leaf Tillandsia group and none of them tolerate dampness or high humidity in enclosed environments. The reason they survive in Florida is due to air circulation. I am afraid your fan does not provide enough relief in enclosed conditions.
