Shelly - in what exposure do you have it planted? Full sun? I've had this happen with a few of my plants and shrubs this year, and possibly it may have to do with all the rain we've had here. Have you had a lot, too?

I would just trim off the wilting foliage and see if it will recover in a few days.

Do you think the foliage may have been wilting due to lack of water? If that's the case, watering it should perk up the foliage within a few hours at least.

Thanks for the help Susan. It is on the north side of the house and recieves full sun till about 6pm when the sun moves behind the trees on the west side. The odd thing is that it is wilting from back to front, so the part that receives less sun is wilting first. It's not due to lack of water, I've checked that and because it was mulched the soil was still damp. I was wondering if it was too much since it has been raining a lot. It is in a raised bed though. It's still continuing to wilt. I guess I will try to cut it back but I fear it will not help. I'm so sad. Bad enough when you know what when wrong but.... Thanks again.

Shelly, I suspect that much of the earlier cold damage was hidden from you. Internal freezing can be covered up by the bark. The plant won't begin to show signs of problems until the weather begins to warm up....that's when they really begin needing a healthy vascular system. Unfortunately, all of those tissues have been permanently damaged by freezing temperatures, especially when such an event happens suddenly.

Only time will tell how extensive the damage is. Sometimes plants are killed clear to the roots. I would certainly cut it all the way back and see what happens. If the roots have not been freeze damaged, you may end up being pleasantly surprised with a very robust plant.

By the way, avoid extra watering and fertilizing at this time of stress. Let your plant recover at its own rate.
