Help!! my San Pedro has a black patch!
Comments (3)Be very careful with watering (not too much!) I got 2 healthy, rooted cuttings on E Bay, nice and green. I planted them then watered them. Shortly after that I noticed some black spots the size of peas in different places. I'm sure it was because of the water (probably too much). I stopped watering them, it's been about a month and the black spots seem to have scabbed over and dried up. It is from rot, and like Cactuscharris said, you may have to cut it off if it starts to spread. Good luck!...See MoreStrange cool little san pedro seedling

Comments (4)Unfortunately, yes it could be. These cacti like to dry out completely between waterings, and I don't water mine at all in winter, maybe once. Since it's in such a large pot, I would grab a big bag of cactus soil and add perlite in a 40/60 ratio respectively. This will allow for better drainage than regular potting mix. When you take it out to repot, check the roots. If they're black/mushy/gross looking or even smelly, you may have to deadhead the cactus....See MoreSan Pedro cactus
Comments (4)The plant in the first pic looks like Cereus peruvianus, the whitish coat is normal on older part of the plant as sun protection. It builds up over time and goes away too. Don't rub it off, the plant looks good. The second plant looks like a San Pedro and there are many different possible causes for it to turn yellow. Too much or too little water, too much or too little sun, and diseases. The weird thing here is that the old stems look perfectly healthy. Is it one plant or 2 close to each other and how do they feel to the touch, squishy, hard/dry, wrinkly? My first guess given the drought in CA is too little water. Although a cactus, San Pedro do need quite a bit of water and drought could affect the younger stems first. But maybe I am wrong......See Morenasty_nate_84
