A pic would definitely help. On some plants that I didn't cut back there's some with scarring on the longer stems. It's unsightly but not a problem for the plants. If you have lots of healthy normal growth above the lesions I'd probably leave them alone. If you think it's rot or the growth starts declining then cut it away or if you just don't like the way it looks and don't think the new foliage will hide it then by all means cut it back.

Some of mine did that too. I have been waiting for them to put out the sucker growth which many have now and then cutting off the dried up nasty part/s. Some of my stems were totally dried and some just had spots on the stems where they had got frostbit and sound like yours. There is new growth along and above the nasty parts.
You could prob just chop it if you can't stand the way it looks and it would put out a new sucker eventually.

I know exactly what you mean. Some of mine did that too. Totally dried and shriveled up but getting little green leaves on the ends. I think I will cut the one back because its so gnarly looking and there are healthy stems I can leave for the blooms. Its a bushy type. Some of the ones that are tree form that got cooked in the greenhouse are putting on new leaves above and below the damage. Not quite sure what to do with those myself. So far its wait and see what happens. Only 3 don't have any new growth or root shoots out of all of them that got cooked so I guess I'm pretty lucky. Some of them look pretty bad but they are alive. I found three brug shoots coming out of the ground in the back flower bed and I don't remember having a brug there. I think I planted a little one and it died but the roots must have still been alive all year and it decided to grow! Have no clue what it is, lol. I looked at an old pic and there was no brug there.

thanks everyone. I guess I will just have to wait and see. The *suckers* or new growth above those points are no different then on the healthy looking part of the stems. And big already and the Flamenco is showing buds too.

I was just affraid that eventually because of the bad part, the healthy new growth will just die :-(

Kristy I got strange stuff coming up all over the yard. lol In one of the flowerbeds is a little golden raintree growing. FAR away from the big tree.

Oh and did the squirles do a great job on the pecan nuts. I could have a whole forest lol

I just pulled a pecan tree out of one of the potted brugs today, lol. If I had realized what it was I'd have been more careful. We could start a pecan farm, lol. The golden rain tree is cool. I got too baby hollies I dug out of the flower bed today. If the bad parts in the middle aren't hollow feeling I would leave them alone. If they are I would cut off the healthy ends and try to root them. I have some that got stem damage and some is healthy just brown and gnarly looking. I was so upset today I finally trimmed the hedges I got to take my frustration out on something, lol. I found a bunch of my moonvines are sprouting so if you want some stop by and I can fish you some out. I already seperated about 6 of them out and planted them all over and still have quite a few in the pot germinating. I had just buried them all in the same pot one was growing in last winter and left them there not thinking they would all make it, lol. Things are not working out for my get together with my sister and the boys grandmother is dying of cancer so I think I am going to have to cancel my plans. I got some vines planted on the arches today and fertilized everything so at least I got something done. I have a bloom on my old faithful noid but it had mealy bugs on it so it will probably be deformed. That is the one that had all those dried shriveled little branches so you might want to check for them on yours. Its little cottony looking bugs that look sort of like flat rolly pollies.
