Gooseberries, currants, and rhubarb prefer only morning sun here to avoid the heat, so I expect they will do good for you as well. I also found raspberries to give almost the same amount of fruit as in full sun. Most fruit trees such as apples don't do as well with only morning sun and can take several more years to start producing anything. But I have several apple trees in morning sun and I do get some apples off of them. My blueberries getting morning sun only have not been worth it, too few berries up to this point. Scott

personally, I'd go for the east wall. The west walls just bake, and It sounds like your east wall will get some light for the first part of the day. Sometimes certain grapes turn out to be more tolerant of a little shade than you might think but use your best judgment.

Along the east side of our house we have redtip photinias (these get HUGE, though, so do not plant them under your roof awnings like the landscapers did at our house), boxwoods, and some kind of dwarf chinese or buford holly. All three of them require almost no work from me as far as watering and fertilizing goes. I do have to give them a drink once or twice during our extended periods of brutally hot weather in the late summer, but other than that they survive pretty much all Oklahoma weather like champs. They are also all evergreen, so they'll give you some green color (some red, too) in the winter. The hollies and photinias flower in the spring and attract lots of bees, but they're not all that showy or fragrant.

Thank you. ljangell44: I actually tried to pick up a paint chip for agreeable gray (for another room) at SW when I was there, they were all out...popular color!! On my to do list to get back there. Interesting, I had never considered gray for the room, but I think it may compliment the yellow and not close in the room...will check it out. Thanks! Funny, I always loved the warmth of it, but now after some renovations over the years all of the stain on various doors and windows do not match and it bugs me. Understood that it will be difficult to change!
