Mine are growing good and they will be placed outside today to get fresh air. They said they have enough of this cold climate in the house roflmao and it is warmer outside after this night ha ha ha ha

Shoot Shawn I just thought of something...Being new at this..What if they dont bloom or Y the first season do we have to keep the whole plant next winter or can we take cuttings to winter over. I wonder if it will affect its blooming capabilities?

Here is a couple of my babies...My fav so far is from carter meyer over at BGI...Hardly any bugs bother it and it is fuzzy...

register, I think I cooked them, I planted them 1/9/09
so I am pretty sure they didn't make it, oh thank you
for the seeds, I got them yesterday, lmk what brug you

Funny you should say that and yes the POLICE showed up one day after they LOOKED around they had this very stupid look on their faces like no big bust today LOL wish I had taken a picture. Wish I could build a greenhouse but no room would need a BIG one and living in the city the lot size is not big enough.

Mine are doing well *knock on wood*. I need more lights now that things are out of the domes and needing to be potted up..more lights and more room! Spring cant get here fast enuf. These babies have GOT to get outside!

Hopefully next winter I will get DH to give me half of the basement for my plants..I am wriggling my way right into "his" area, lol. I will have too many babies that will need to be kept going, and I don't think the sleeping babies in the basement are doing too well. Seemed like all of a sudden most brugs said, OK this basement/dormant BS has gone on long enuf..and they started shriveling on me. Next year I will set up a whole big area with lotsa lights, etc and keep em all going.

Do you know what the vulcanicola in those crosses is?

If they are old as you say, I am going to assume they are Lockwood 621 as that was the only vulcanicola available in the US at the time(as far as is popularly known). Even the readily available European ones are Vulc. x Sang. hybrids. Such as Rosa Lila, Pink Ice, etc.

Either way, sounds great!!!!! BTW.... How's that Zunac doing?

I have some Rosa Lila x Sanguinea and Rosa Lila x WIldfire that are getting their second sets of true leaves.

They are all from seeds, gifted to me by Karyn and planted on Jan, 25th. They are Rabahana crossed with either Daydreams, Creamsickle, Madeline or Vulcanicola. Her labels got messed up, so we'll never know the true cross. They are my first though, so who cares. Thanks Karyn!

Matt, my guess would be the Lockwood as well. The packet had a note that the vulc was a pink sang-like bloom. I don't know how into brugs the person I got these seeds from is. I actually contacted them for the inca p x inca q cross and they asked if I wanted those vulc crosses as well. I found out about the seeds on an old thread on BGI. The offer was a few years old so I really wasn't expecting them to have the seeds anymore but I lucked out!
Sadly the zunac cutting you sent me quickly turned to mush on me but the arborea plant is doing very well! I can't wait to see and smell the blooms, though it will be a while before I have any sang or other pollen to try on them unless I can find some on BGI when the arborea blooms.

Shawn the brug seedlings I have right now are doing great. And with the warmer temps that we have been getting off and on I have been putting them outside on the warmer days and they seem to really jump off.I will try to post pics later.

One summer I visited my sister and she showed me her balcony flowers. There it was...nice and tall and big. A marijuana (sp) plant. She was so proud of it because it looked so healthy and best part was...she had NO idea where it came from since she had not planted it.

Naturally if you knew my sister who never does anything wrong and is the innocent herself. You can just imagine how horrified she was when I told her what she was growing there ha ha ha ha Of course she did not believe me and looked it up first before destroying her priced plant.

Lucy... what a great story about your sister. It must have been heartbreaking for her to have to destroy the plant for which she was so proud. Did she throw it in the fireplace, and all of you sit around it, eating chocolate cake, watching, and smelling, it burn? Good fun... good fun! Haha!

Susan mine are spending even the nights out in the open. It is so warm. Now I just got to give them mor soil. You wait and see how much the angels love the warm weather. Oh yeah. I put about 20 cuttings in the soil along the fence late in the afternoon yesterday.

Kylie and all, can you tell I am trying to force spring to stay? lol

I do not know if it is my imagination or if there is something to it. BUT, somehow everything in those peatmoss pallets seeding balls...sorry do not know how to call them lol. It just seams to stop growing well after you pot this up in some more soil.

Do you remove this before potting it up in soil? Would you disturb the roots to much?

My starfruit tree seedlings did the same thing. Hopefully I will be able to pull them through after I have time tonight to pot them up in plain soil.

Soooo... go back up and take a look at where I have had my seedlings for the past week or so. If your windows swing out, from the bottom, you may want to consider another spot. I was just outside that window, thursday evening, and looked up just as Laura started cranking it open. My eyes nearly jumped out of my head, as all 8 seedlings did a simultaneous swan-dive. All but one survived the 5' drop. The last one broke off, just above the soil line. I didn't have the heart to throw it away, so I dropped it in a glass of water, where it still remains, looking very healthy! None of the others looked very happy, I can tell you.

At the time, I was on the phone with a Plumeria grower/researcher in California, who is a member of the GW Plumeria forum. With only a wave of the hand, I was able to stop Laura from screaming out about what an idiot I am for placing them on the sill... then spent the next 15 minutes repotting all of them, with him never knowing that anything was amiss. The whole time, my heart was in my mouth!

Bob that is so sad. Poor Laura must feel bad that this happened to your only seedlings.

But now that you know how easy it is to start them, and the dangers to keep them growing. You can ALWAYS start new ones.

Thanks, Lucy. They have actually all perked up, are standing erect again, and look great. Even the one in the glass of water still looks great... of course I don't expect that to last.

Look what I got in an email today: a pic of the vulc that is the parent of some of the seeds I am growing. It is actually a vulc/sang hybrid, but check out the color. Does it look like it has lavender undertones to you? Hoping to get a nice lavender brug from the seeds, like the ones they have in Europe!

That is a pretty color and even I saw the lavender look. Now Bob might have problems.

As young adults you always joked about color blindness. But it must be difficult to live with in some situations.
How or does it affect your work Bob? No matter about the brugs...Cause even when Camera's do not take the true color at times...we all go uhhhhhhh ahhhhhhh and just love those angels.

I just got Lockwood x sang & sang x Lockwood seeds last week! Shawn & Matt, I'm right behind you guys! By the way, did y'all get a fair amount of germination from those.
That's a nice bit of seedlings there, plantman. I did that with a bunch of "wild" seed I harvested in California last year, had babies everywhere. They look great!
