Hi, I just cut all my back again. I do it every spring because I like the look better of shorter stems and it also encourages the caudex to grow larger. I just cut where ever and the plants figures it out. I usually cut 1-2" above the caudex. I have always read that the stems will not form a caudex. Some people on here disagree but all the experts that I have read say otherwise. I would keep the soil very airy with a lot of perlite. I personally use semi-hydroponics which has worked great with all my caudiciforms. They like quite a bit of water in the summer.

I, too, was considering pruning my adenium obesum. It is indoors now under metal halide lights and skylights. It woke up about a month ago, and has been flowering profusely.

I was wondering if it is okay to prune now, i.e., will it bud back at this point, considering it has been flowering already? Is it too late?

When the weather up here improves, I plan to place it outdoors in gradually full sun, like I did last season.

I have a follow up for alotofplants (great handle!):
When you cut, do you use anything, like sulfur or fungicide, to harden off the cut or are you just leaving it to heal on its own? I ask because I recently made some cuts to my Ademium and used sulfur to coderize the wounds, as I do when I cut cactus. The cut points do not look right to me now, they have kind of hardened off and become woody and Im not sure this is right.
