Birth Control Pills

I read something some time ago about the use of Birth Control Pills as a supplement for plants..My DD sent some (should have seen DH's face... Priceless...LOL)and I am going to give them a trial.. Wondering if anyone else has tried this...

Kylie, I have heard the same thing for plants, but I have never tried it. And being a nurse I have heard other things that I haven't tried either :)

I know you didn't ask this, but if you are having that much trouble keeping on a schedule with your BC, have you thought about depo-provera shots instead? They are once every 90 days, a simple injection. Extra added bonus: most women stop menstrating entirely- no PMS, no bleeding, no bloating, no mood changes. I've been on it for several years now and really am happy with it. I did gain some weight at first, about 10 pounds (also mostly in upper body), but I also had gone back to school at same time, which meant working less and sitting on my behind more (I was a vet tech and on my feet all day). I give myself my injection and save myself a trip to the doctor. But my health insurance covers the entire cost, including the doctor visits if I wanted to do that. I had a co-pay for birth control pills. The pills didn't help my anemia, fainting or vomiting during my period. Since I don't get a period anymore, I don't have those problems. Just a thought. Nobody had told me about Depo-provera; I had to ask about it. Check with your doctor about advserse effects if you are interested. People with certain conditions shouldn't take it.

Yeah Edith, you're scaring me! Hope we don't see you over at the pregnancy forum! Just kidding. Since I've gone off the pill I feel 100 times better (wait, i already said that in another post...). Did I mention I feel better? LOL I'm just waiting for my pants to fit better, since I'm not shoving nearly as much food into my mouth as before! LOL I know you can even get pregnant while ON the pill, although that is probably rare. There is another post on the health forum about Yasmin, a new pill that is supposed to have no side effects, but these women will take a pill for a month, have bad "side effects", take something else, yada yada yada, until they've tried like 20 different kinds. For the most part, (unless this Yasmin is the miracle birth control pill), they're all the same. Just different formulations. I checked the Physician's Desk Reference once (yes, I know, I'm a nerd), and counted like nearly 30 different kinds of pill alone. Crazy. Then there are shots, creams, gels, sponges, etc. So at least there are lots of options!!

That sounds awful, that sounds like a good idea to at least look into taking it. The Mirena IUD is something else you could consider too. I've been having heavier and increasingly awful cramps and finally went to the doctor about it. She just told me to take more ibuprofin before my period started and to consider getting the Mirena IUD. I felt a bit brushed off, she gave me a pelvic exam but didn't test my hormone level or anything else. I hadn't heard about your periods getting worse when you get older-I'm forty one. Jen

Hi Puterlady! Welcome. I too started low dose birth control pills five years ago (I was 43). I had been suffering from terrible PMS and was entering into my second marriage and chose it for birth control. Three months after being on the pill I had what I call an *awakening*. Life was wonderful without the ups and downs of hormonal nightmarish PMS. For me it was the best thing that could have happened. I too was told that the pill could usher me through perimenopause and menopause symtoms...time will tell. Keep us informed, and good luck.

I tried this about 30 years ago with some sort of annuals, I don't remember what. It was a science project for school. I do remember that their was no difference in the rate of growth.

Kylie.. you are a "nut". You know, I wish I needed the BC pill.. I worked in a Dr's office for years, and he had this big old cactus that I just hated. And everytime I had expired injectable drugs, I would shoot that old cactus up !! LOL Never did kill him.. I guess it's still around..

Ok - the next suggestion about weeing in a plant, I'm outta here because I'll know you guys have lost your minds! (grin)

Cold coffee, aspirin, coffee grounds, canola oil, ground egg shells, weak tea, murphy's oil soap, birth control pills, . . .worried? Nawwwww. . .(grin)

weeing in the plant was the thing I wasn't going to mention. I have had someone pour a patients IV nutrition (TPN for you medical folks) in a plant at work, it just made a sticky mess and talk about attracting bugs.............eeeeeek!

LOL... We wee alot on stuff.. My GS had a Banana that he watered on a regular basis and it was the biggest.. I do live WAY out in the country...I couldn't be a City girl...LOL Out here you just cop a squat..;^)

Lol, that is so funny. I have a plant at the shop in a planter by the bay door and I kept forgetting to water it where it was at. I told my husband that plant must be drought tolerant it hardly got watered all winter and him and all his friends died laughing. I was like what's so funny and JD said we water it for you all the time but not in a way you would like, lol. I just walked away. Its doing better than the one I water so maybe they have something there, lol.

They didn't have to they are just being men and too lazy to use a bathroom when there is a perfectly good tree or plant close by, lol. Good thing I only put stuff there I expect to die or maybe thats why most stuff there dies, lol. The wild iris I put there is doing fine.
