Triloba is a very large plant. I keep mine (which I think I lost while out of town..boohoo) on the porch with the same conditions as the Brugs and never had any problem.. Passi's for the most part are easy to grow.. Some don't like the heat .. but Triloba isn't picky at all. Great choice..As for the others (you little sneaker..LOL) I have had the best luck with floral foam and rooting hormones..Miniata I have never had luck with.. hope yours do well.

My Triloba grows well and has thick stems that root easily in water. It takes a long time for mine to flower and I don't get that many blooms but they are worth the wait. I allow it to go dry between watering and protect it from afternoon sun. I feed very infrequently but do dig in a couple spoonfulls of chopped banana peels about every 6 weeks. I don't have the other two but have the best results rooting passie cuttings in water with bottom heat. I take cuttings and seeds from the plants at the local botanical garden/conservatory all the time. A good portion of my collection originated there. lol

hey karyn, which conservatory do you frequent? I've got a couple questions...

1. how do you take the cuttings? do they allow it, or do you sneak them? and what sort of supplies do you bring with you (as in, knife, bag, something wet? lol)?
2. is it specifically a tropical plant type conservatory? because I went to the new york botanical garden in the bronx maybe eight years ago, and I don't recall having seen any passion flowers. maybe I should just call...

I usually go to Brookside Gardens. They have a couple conservatories with tropical plants and probably a few hundred acres of outdoor gardens. They don't allow cuttings to be taken but sometimes the guys working outside will allow me to cut stuff but most of the time I sneak cuttings and seeds. I always have Kyle and his big old diaper bag which has conveniently been emptied to make room for plant material. I also bring a marker, baggies and a small scissor. I also get plants from the National Arboretum but with the stuff I want from there I just let the manager know. They are a good client of DH's so I don't have to steal from there. lol I am very careful not to damage any plants and I clean the scissors with alcohol swabs after each plant.

I am a NINJA when it comes to nicking plant samples. I do it CONSTANTLY, with little or no remorse, ROFL. a lot of times I do it when I go somewhere interesting, even if the plant is fairly common, just so I can look at it months later and be like, oh, I remember that day, and smile a little to myself.

I don't mangle stuff though, and I always carry a small pocketknife, so my samples are clean and humane.

...I can't wait to go to nybg now, hahah :D

I take plants from everywhere except private homes. One of the best places I got cuttings from last year was Hershey Park, PA. They have some beautiful gardens so I was busy stealing plants while the kids were on the rides. I filled up a diaper bag and a couple gym bags! The kids were so embarrassed and sure that I was going to get nailed. lol

Karyn, you sound like me last week. I was busy stealing wild flower on the beach. My husband told me if I get arest, he will not bail me out :)

You can say I learned from the best. I remember going to a green house with my Grandmother and she did the same thing. I was probably about 10 at the time. Now my kids are used to it, sometimes they help :)

I found a spider plant baby laying on the ground at walmart and hubby wouldn't let me pick it up since he said it was stealing. He would die if he saw me snatch cuttings from places, lol. I will go up to a house in a heartbeat and ask to take cuttings. Most people are more than willing to share. I got the cutest little cutting of what I thought was devils backbone that bloomed little pink bells. Not sure now what it is but I like it, lol. I got some kind of bromeliad looking plant while I was in Louisiana from a high school friend that was dumb enough to invite me into her greenhouse while I was at home this weekend. I call it the itchy plant since I itch like crazy every time I touch it and my husband too, lol. He said thats why she gave it to me, lol. I'll have to take a pic of it. I dug up some of her purple spreading flowers too. I have to see what they are also and some succulent cuttings. I have to send her a couple of brugs, lol.

Are they tall? These are. She told me the name but I can't remember. I looked up the triloba. Its cool looking.

what are the flowers shaped like?

I think she told me they were Phlox but they look kind of like the pics of vinca I saw. I will try to take a pic of them. They are all wilted now from transplanting.
