I don't have the answer to your problem, but you do seem to have a lot of spots on your plants. I get some spots on my plants, especially the aeoniums like yours, but not anywhere near like yours. I'll be interested in hearing what the people with more experience have to say.

Now, wasn't there something written just recently about water not causing spots on plants?

Welcome, anmoonen! Your description of your environment sounds like mine. I do experience frost a couple times a year & once in a blue moon we have a freeze.

Your Euphorbia looks like either a frost or sunburn affected it. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about these blemishes on the plant.
The Kalanchoe looks like a worm (larvae of something) or snail got to that one leaf when it was first coming out & it's now growing with the deformity.
The Crassula 'Gollum' seems normal to me. They usually have spots of one sort or another & sometimes salt exudes from the leaves. (Unless I'm not seeing what you're concerned about.)
The Crassula perforata looks like some critter (caterpillar or other) got to the leaf edges.

If I'm missing something, please let me know.

Rosemarie, I see what you mean on those plants, but the spots on the others don't seem to be caused by any of those things. Photos 5 and 8 especially seem to have a different cause of spotting to me. I was thinking that the spotting in the plant in photo 5 may just be natural to that plant. However, the spotting in photo 8 would seem to have some other reason for spotting. Could you take another look if/when you have time?

Yes, there are more than 4 photos. =) I'm not sure of all of the names, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's a second photo of the Kalanchoe where you can see the damage a bit better.

The Aeonium (photos 7 and 12) seems like it may have scale or something? It sits next to the Echeveria (I think that's what that is, photos 6 and 13, which is the plant that is the worst off. Besides the spots it just doesn't seem happy. I think it may be beyond salvation.

I included a photo of my jade plant because it shows the color of some of the leaves, how they're more yellowish. They also feel kind of limp and let go easily. I don't think I am overwatering, but maybe I'm not watering enough? That plant seemed to fare better when it was in a separate container, before I moved here.

The plant in photo 5 started getting brown spots all over just in the last couple of months. Some branches are still unaffected but it's pretty widespread. If that is a Crassula ovata variegata, then my book says it's best in semi-shade, and I have it in full sun. Is it sunburned?

So you think the Crassula perforata was chewed on? And did you see the Sedum next to it also had some spots? Do ants bother succulents? We get lots of ants. =( I have seen snails out on the sidewalk of the main road, though not in our complex. I do see lizards A LOT.

I can live with the Euphorbia's sun damage, it adds to its "don't mess with me" attitude. =)

Lastly, photo 9, is that a Pachyveria? It also has spots and it's growing kind of sideways.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. I'll go look for some photos of the whole planter, so you can tell me if I did something wrong in combining these guys. Down the road, if we can figure out what is going on, I would like some advice on how to proceed. Do I pull the sickies out, does the whole thing need to come out and be disinfected, etc... Sorry for being such a pest (pun intended). Here is a link to the album with photos of the entire planter. You'll see an overall shot taken at different times. Right after planting in April 2011, then August 2011, October 2011 and February 2012. Also an overhead of the left side and right side of the planter so you can see the plants in more detail. I have since made a couple of small adjustments -- I realized putting an agave next to the house wasn't a good plan.

In looking at these I realize my jade plant is in fact much happier here than it was in the container I had it in -- I mistook it for another one I left behind at my previous address.

But you will see a dramatic change between November and February. Aside from the spots issue... did I underwater them? Any input appreciated and once again thanks in advance.

Hi! I had some white spots on the bottom of a few leaves on my succulents awhile ago. My white spots were waxy, and I believe they were scale or mealybugs. I don't know if that's the case with some of your succulents but I treated it by diluting some rubbing alcohol with water and spot treating it with a q-tip. I also rubbed some cooking oil (like canola or olive)on a severe infection of one plant to smother the little buggers. Some infected leaves did dry up and fall off, others just healed but the plant has remains healthy, I hope this helps and good luck with your beautiful plants!

Thank you for your suggestion, I will give that a try on the white spots. I think that plant may be beyond help but if nothing else it will be a good exercise for future occurrences. If anyone else has any more ideas after looking at the additional photos, I'd love to hear them. Thanks everyone for your help.

Get out a magnifying glass and see if the white spots have legs. If they do, they are mealy bugs. Do a search of this Forum for mealies as there are lots of things you can do. You need to get rid of the ones you can't see too. Your leaves should not fall off if you just have mealies. Scale has brown hard shells, and aphids will have legs, but I didn't see any evidence of those on your plants. I don't reccomend using cooking oil as it'll leave a residue.

they like bright sun so the spots are probably not sunburn.

Thanks for your input. Any idea what they might be, if not sunburn? It only seems to affect the most exposed parts of the plant, the leaves closer to the ground are fine. Did you see photos 3 and 4 of the same plant in the 'More spots' album? (attached)

It looks to me like you have a bad snail problem, some scale and possibly some caterpillars and mealies. I haven't had much trouble with scale but I would suggest going outside tonight with a flashlight and just going Rambo on those snails. I spray mealies and aphids when I see them.

Forgive my ignorance, but how exactly do snails ruin succulents? I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to kill them -- basically I can't go Rambo on anything bigger than ants :) -- is there a way to deter snails?

Snails munch on your succulents and you wouldn't believe how many of them come out at night, especially after a rain. They reproduce like, well... snails.

Just put them in a bag and drop them off in a field if you have to. I've heard they will drown in a saucer of beer but that's just mean.

Doesn't sound like too bad of a way to go ;-). But I hear the snails won't even go near a saucer of Coors Light. Not only does that prove how smart they are but how much taste they have too ha ha...

Well, before this thread was revived, this past weekend I actually ripped out the Aeonium and Pachyveria, and put a couple of new plants in. I'll see how they fare. I kept the Echeveria because it seemed to be getting better, and had some new growth around the stem. I cut off the rosettes that were sad.

I'm going to look at the patio as a work in progress... hate to see plants die but hey, it gives me an opportunity to get some new and different ones, right?
