Suggest you use a free draining bark based mix as a 3-1-1 custom mix.
The pot in pic will need better drainage while plant is out toss out the black bottom catch tray or cover and if there is an inside piece and make the holes it has now X2 bigger

If you can find a second pot then split it into two potted plants if you want IMO a Terra cotta six inch would work if you want ( it looks established enough ) split it into two potted plants

Re-potting and pruning is not advisable at this time of year.

If it where my plant in that pot and in wally world soil I would re-pot it and maybe split it up into two pots. Pruning wouldn't be a priority

The pot it is in now does have holes in the bottom. We did take the catch pot off of it. Never had one that was so hard to take off!! lol

I am going to put it in Al's 5-1-1 mix. or a close enough mix, that is how most mine turn out.. close enough.

I haven't done anything to it yet, almost afraid too. Will try to get it out of the Walmart soil this week tho. I hope. Probibly put it in the same pot since I don't have anything smaller, need to work on that. :)

Josh~ I know this is not the ideal time to repot, but it really needs new soil. I have only watered it once since I got it, not sure it needed it then, but I did. Still real wet and it's been 3 wks.

I could be a real pretty plant if I don't kill it, hope for some flowers this year from it, should be real pretty.

I agree with Josh about the timing of repotting. I'd stuff paper towels up into the holes in the pot and let them pull out the moisture - over the sink - you might be shocked at how much water drips out.

Winter can be a tough time on plants without a good mix. Watering and cool temps make the roots rot, while the furnace removes humidity.

What to do... What to do...? If the roots are distressed, and they probably are, they could just rot even with a repotting now. I'd get the plant into maintenance mode by removing the extra moisture and wait another six (or more) weeks. By then your plant will be getting close to growth mode. With the new mix, it should rebound nicely. Truly, if you do it right now, when it's dormant or semi-dormant, you could set the plant back even further.

If you have the time tools and material available to re pot in a new soil why wait ? The old soil isn't doing your plant any favors it's probably getting more hydrophobic and compacting both would allow watering a harder task to handle when your plant is in an ideal growing and in need of watering.

Some of us will re-pot plants in off times and in less than ideal growing conditions as an act of reassurance for our plants to have over all better growing health.

I cant see the roots but if they where looking good in size and health chances are greater that I would split it up into two or three sized pots. Splitting up a plant while re-potting and pruning are different it's not my intentions to confuse you or other readers.

If me I wouldn't prune right now Spring pruning is possible but for you to decide when spring gets here. You could prune it if you felt it needed pruning but chances are you might not have to prune it. Consider if you do prune in spring which is or isn't to soon wouldn't cause any major harm.
