Very close to a Red Lion?

I just looked and my blooming Red Lion has all the attributes that you are describing!

Thanks ya'll! I was thinking it was way too dark to be Red Lion. All of mine in the past have been much lighter than this one and without any white markings on them anywhere. Maybe a mix up of Red Lion and something else possibly? Regardless, I love my mutt! :-)

My Red Lions ranged from a lighter red to a deep red... I have three bulbs. Remember that there are many variables contributing to color shade... amount and intensity of light, temperature, etc... so, a variety I grow may look slightly different than the same variety in your hands.

Well I'm gonna say it could be Royal Velvet, too, cuz frankly (no pun intended), no one seems to know.

This is why I'm not drawn to reds. There are a million of them and they can all look so different depending on light, soil, wind, alignment of planets and probably the mood of the gardener.

Frank you could just claim it as an original Frank production. If people can name stars after themselves, why not stake claim to a nice plant?

Coincidentally, Frank, often Royal Velvet will have this brilliant-white streak on a bloom or two on the same scape, even though the others may be deep deep red (white tips sometimes, too). So I'm not kidding, it really could be royal velvet.

Very nice, Kristi! Red Pearl is/was a beauty, for me anyway... large and deep red, big leaves...

I don't remember if any of my Red Lions had white streaks, but I don't think they did.

My Red Lions last year didn't have any streaks. Isn't it awesome how much nature can vary? Everything is so beautiful :-)

This is odd, there are similarities to soo many in this one. You are right Jodi and I sure most have better conditions for their babies. I try to keep them happy...haha! Would the actual size of the bloom have any indication? These blooms are pretty petite I would say...not mini, but not huge like my previous 'Red Lions'. Larissa, I've never had a Red Lion with streaks either, but Kristi has a beautiful one up there...this is so odd isn't it? Maybe I just want so much for it to not be just another Lion...haha!

I wish I could capture the deep coloring because my camera makes it look so much lighter than it really is. If it will ever stop raining, I am going to try to snap it outside. Maybe I will just take Ryans advice and call it an original Frank Production...I like that!

As I recall, my Red Lions were of average size... I wouldn't call the blooms large, especially compared to some of my other bulbs that bloomed. I'd call them medium, bloom size.

They're all nice, though... I can't say that any are not to my liking, just that some are higher on the list of ones I want than others! I think the first ones I'm going to try to get are Jewel, Pasadena, and Green Goddess, even if I must wait until next season to get them!

Frank, personally, I think your flower is much deeper in red color than Red Lion. The rich red throat just seems to be of another breed.
