OT - ER visit

Spent yesterday morning in the ER. My husband, Mike, has been having problems with pain and stiffness in his neck. By yesterday, he was willing to see a doctor. (For maybe the 5th time in the 34 years I've known him!) So, off we go to the ER since there were no after-hours clinics open. (Seems like they should be open when the normal offices are closed but not here.)

Muscle spasm for unknown reasons. Gave him anti-inflammatory, pain medicaton and a muscle relaxer. With all of this, he decided to go to work today. He had me pick him up around lunch.

Now, I wonder.... He promised to help put in some beds and plants some things for me this spring. Weather has been warming up and my plants are budding.

Seriously, I am a little worried that this popped up with no unusual physical activity and no accident. He literally cannot move his head except to lower his chin a little. Even swallowing causes pain in the neck muscles.

Amelia, I'm so sorry you are going through this with your husband.Muscle spasms can be very painful. A doctor's visit is definitely in order to make sure.

Hopefully the doctor can figure out whats going on and get him back on the road to recovery, so he can get busy helping you in the garden! Seriously though, hope he's feeling better quickly!

Glad to hear you all are doing ok . My son too is a walking disaster, must be a boy thing. When he broke his arm we did get questioned a lot on how it happened. I guess maybe I was too calm. When they told me they had to X-Ray his arm to see if it was broken, I told them I didn't think they needed to. Maybe to see how bad it was but, it was obviously broken. (Nifty 30 degree angle where there shouldn't have been one was a clear give away) When he threw up from the pain meds I just calmly asked for a pair of scissors to cut his shirt off. I couldn't see pulling it over his head and dumping it in his hair. My DH was not so calm, I kept sending him home for things (clean cloths, let the dog out...) I guess one parent, usually the mom, is wired to get through whatever the situation. That little guy will probably give you plenty more. Sounds like he's a good little trouper. I have to disagree with your doctor, Glenda. If you think you could be having a stroke, you should ALWAYS head to the ER because time is of the essence. You probably shouldn't drive yourself, but definitely get there somehow. Wonder why he said that to you? Anyway, I'm so sorry that you are feeling low and hope your trip helps with that. Have a wonderful time, Glenda. Every time my daughter sees pictures of England/Scotland, she sighs, wishing she could go back.

Good planted collection of magnolias on display, significant offering of Maddenia and similar tender rhododendrons - if I gardened down there I would be all over these last in particular. Sometimes wonderfully fragrant, often lily-like flowers are typical of them.

Yep Janni, I will be teaching a workshop in your neck of the woods then so am looking forward to meeting you then and seeing your awesome build! CP, isn't there a connection with you and another GWer, your children know each other, or something? Yep. Both DLM's son and my daughter did a tour in Israel together and have remained good friends. We discovered we had the connection when my daughter decided to fly from our place in FL to Atlanta to meet up with her friend, drive back to Denver with him and then fly from Denver to LA where she lives. I knew my daughter's friend had been helping his parents build their house in NC but never made the connection. Halfway back, my daughter posted a pic of DLM's son on FB. DLM thanked my daughter for posting the pic and I then commented on the same thread on FB on what a fine son she has. I had met him when both kids got back from Israel and he stayed in NY for a few days. Two minutes after my posting on the FB post, I got a call from my daughter. "Mom, you know my friend's Mom through some website." I was confused as to where I might know his Mom. Then I got an email from DLM saying, "That's my son and your daughter traveling across the country together!" I immediately called DLM and we chatted for over an hour, much to the consternation of our kids. LOL. Talk about a small world.

Find him a good massage therapist if the doctor rules out more serious things. Muscle spasms are no fun at all and it is unusual for him to have that without something causing it unless he just slept funny. I used to have that happen a lot and wouldn't be able to turn my neck for days at a time. Usually has a lot to do with tension and sleeping poorly for me. Hope he feels better soon. A chiropractor also can help if its that but he would have to be comfortable enough to let them work on him. If he can't relax its hard for them to adjust you.

Amelia I hope that a doc or like Kristy said, the other 2 can get your husband back to normal. When someone does not go to the doctor that often, you KNOW they are really in pain!
Hope that he gets better soon so YES , he can help you in the garden!

By the way I found a top notch chiropractor in Baton Rouge when I was there last year and my neck messed up so bad I couldn't drive home. He fixed me in one visit! Was really reasonable too. Email me if you need his name and number.

It really could be as simple as a pillow or sleeping in the wrong position. Hopefully he feels better soon.

He's much better this evening.

Moves his head and everything! Actually, he has stopped the pain medication and has decided to only take the muscle relaxer at night.

Hope he continues to improve. We are supposed to be at a Mardi Gras party down the bayou Saturday.
