Laura calls this her "Grandmother's fllowers". We have been in possession of bulbs for 25 years. I don't know how long her parents have had them.

NOID Plumeria. This one has been sitting in my driveway since I got the cutting in July, 08. The inflo has been slowly coming up since sometime in January. Looks like just a few more weeks.

Off to Tuscon tomorrow, returning Sunday evening. So incase I don't check in, have a great weekend... when it gets here!

Nice to see the noid pink flushing again. Those red flowers look like the could be some kind of amaryllis? Everything looks great.....have a nice trip!

Rogue is my favorite of this group. I love that bloom form, and I'm a sucker for white midribs. I have tiny ants in some of my flowers, too. As long as they stay in the garden and not in my house, that's O.K. with me. I have never heard of Hummingbird Mint before. The closest thing I have (in the same Genus) is Anis Hyssop. I love the licorice smell of the leaves. But I will have to move it soon, to a sunnier location, because it's slowly dying near the woods where there's too much shade. I'll have to do some research on Hummingbird Mint, and maybe add it somewhere. I love those late season bloomers. Did you ever count how many flowering plants you have? My DH keeps asking me that, and I wouldn't have a clue, unless I got out all my lists and counted. Beautiful garden shot w/your roses! Julie

Susan, I have a story slightly similar to your laughing gull story. Prior to going to bed one night about 4 am, I took my dogs outside for a few minutes. Suddenly a noise overhead caught my attention, I looked up to the shadows of large birds flying in a characteristic v-pattern. I've heard and seen ducks fly overhead before, but this call was totally different. Stupefied by what they could be, I immediately went online to search. I don't remember what I typed for a search query, but since I could only see their light-colored outlined form, I was left to search by the sound I heard...woo. I soon realized I hadn't heard woo, rather it was whoop. After listening to a clip of whooping cranes, I identified their sound to be exactly what I heard. While researching information on whooping cranes, I learned they're endangered, and were nearly extinct; at less than 400 birds in the wild, it is one of the rarest birds in North America. This has to be one of the luckiest whooping crane sightings ever. I'm still amazed by the circumstances that led me to see these rare birds, and to have witnessed a flyover during their migration...surely a rarer sight. Paul

I was driving home from college and had to pass under a railroad trestle that diagnolled the street. As I was coming up to the bridge, an 18 wheeler lost a tire and rim, that rolled across 3 lanes of traffic, hit the concrete pillar of the trestle, bounced back across 4 lanes of traffic, across a parking lot and landed in the back of a pickup truck parked in front of a car repair shop. Everyone in all 4 lanes of traffic, slowed down and watched it all happen, no one was hit. The guys in the shop came out and just stared. I don't think the driver even knew he had lost his wheel. Back in the late 70's when I-15 finally was finished and didn't go through Las Vegas, DH and I were heading for California. It was late afternoon and had been raining off and on. I looked over at the skyline of Vegas and there was a huge rainbow over the entire city. A Kodak moment and I didn't have a camers. Swear!!!

Thanks Meyers! Now I see the most lovely edge ever, and your fabricator has to go to school to learn how to do?? I can see that it's complicated, but gorgeous. The second edge is amazing as well, I've seen this photo before and hadn't noticed the edge since there is so much loveliness going on in this kitchen. Is the first photo your kitchen? It's very beautiful :) mpagmom, thanks for posting this, it's cool, I've not seen this one before. I need to educate myself more on edges; I don't understand what laminating is in terms of edges. Is that how they get them to be so thick?

Yes, Shawn, I believe they are Amaryllis. Laura calls them her grandmother's flowers, because they were originally hers, and always bloom for her birthday... February 12th. Her grandmother passed, before I even met Laura, 30 years ago. They are really beautiful.

How wonderful it will be to see our own angels in flushes again is something you just gave us a climpse (sp) what we have to look forward too.

Now the grandmother's flowers is such a wonderful story. It is so great that it has been past down and with you for SO SO SOOOOOOOO long. Makes you feel old, doesn't it roflmao

Of course the Plumeria makes your heart beat faster. I know. But let me tell you. Raising them from seeds is NOT that easy lol

I love your Grandmother lilly. My neighbor behind me has dark red ones I have been trying to talk him into dividing, lol. Have a good trip and talk to you soon.

Yes Lucy, it does make me feel old to have a plant for 25 years, and know that that is half my life!

I enjoy knowing that they have been around, so long, even before I got them. I need to check with Laura's mom, as to how long they've been in the family.

TJ... don't hold out on us... I bet you've got something blooming in that greenhouse!

Bob have they multiplied a lot? Do you share them with family members? What do you do to make sure that they will come back the next year? I would be scared that with my watering habit, They would rot during dormand time. Do they go dormant at all?

Can not wait to see how old they are.

Actually, we have split them up a couple of times to share. We are getting ready to give some to Laura's mom. Not knowing how to treat them seems to be a blessing. when they are dormant, I just move the pot back in the garden, where its kind of hidden, when the weeds get bad in the pot, I yank them out. When I notice that they are starting to push out buds, I pull them out, closer to the patio. That's it. When the sprinklers are on, or it rains, they get watered. When its dry and the sprinklers are off, they don't get watered. Sometimes I pour some fertilizer in, if I think of it... most of the time I don't. No matter what I do, or don't do, they always come back and bloom. That's my kind of plant!

Bob, those sound like some tough plants. They are not really called grandmother lilies are they? Do you happen to know if it is a tropical plant?

By the way, I'm not holding out on you. ;) I've been doing a lot of traveling to spend time with my daughter (unexpectedly). My aunt was watching my greenhouse and well things did not go well. So this weekend I spent a lot of time cutting off dead foliage and am hoping for the best.

I always take care of her animals when she travels. BUT, I guess animals are easier to take care of than a gh in dead winter. :(

Sounds like there is nothing you can do wrong to them, they will most likely still be around long after we are all gone lol

Tj that is sad. Sorry but hopefully it just looks worse then it looks!
