I have six plants of Mr. Bluebird since I love this rose so much. It has China heritage and was bred by Ralph Moore, I believe, and seems to bloom all the time. It's very hot and dry here but my plants are young so I don't know how they'll fare in the heat of summer. Their color is gorgeous though, and with their five petals they look so cute and really go with everything. I have little disease so can't comment on that. I bought my plants at Rogue Valley nursery, by the way. They're very bushy and have beautiful foliage. Ingrid

I think basically what one does is not take the pups off the mother plant and the plant grows by pups maturing, flowering, having pups which have pups which continue until they break apart somehow (by humans doing it or by, say, falling out of a tree). If they are a kind that do not easily clump (I understand that funckiana is like this), you can arrange them together and perhaps use fishing line (since is can be nearly invisible) to make the into a clump. As for favorites... funckiana, heteromorpha, and similar plants, because they remind me of pine trees and visiting the forest, which I don't get to do often enough. Xerographica and similar gray ball-shaped ones (like chiapensis) because they're... loners maybe, lone wolves, and I like Mexico, too. Whacky looking ones (bulbosa). Whatever is growing well at the time or being surprising (lots of ionantha flowered this last winter, and two what may be filifolia, which was very cool). While I take pictures of all my new plants with their labels for later identification, I don't always recall their names. I should work harder on that.

Apartment management would wonder where all that water came from, especially if my aquarium is still intact. Lately (this winter so far), I've been spraying (spritzing) my plants once in the morning until they turn green, and that's usually it. Everybody looks okay, and like last winter, some are reddening up, even some unexpected ones, or putting on obvious growth. I'm taking pictures every morning. I still have two labels from Rainforest Flora. The one attached to a small funckiana "Herb Hill" says "Filtered sunlight. Run plant under faucet 2x per week & submerge it under water overnight every 2-3 weeks. Outdoors: Bright filtered sunlight. Thoroughly water weekly when humid or cool, daily when hot or dry. Avoid frost. Fertilizing: Epiphyte's Delight [which they sell] fertilizer monthly. " I don't run them under tap water; I prefer to let the water sit for a few days or use aquarium water. Some of my plants were getting filtered sunlight for winter, but I've moved them all now under grow/cool white lights due to cold and gray skies sometimes keeping me from opening blinds (and chilling the room even more). I've only watered over night by accident (forgot plant was in there). Usually 1-1.5 hours a week and that only in the summer since we usually have low humidity here in the high desert. There are only some plants I'd put in sun here (the Xeros, for example) since our sun is so bright at this altitude. If the plants go out, they're in my north-facing porch. Also they are safer there from plant stealers. If people are interested, I'll give them, say, some Spanish moss as I have a lot (and it's the one I will soak more often). The tag for the T. myosura says "SUBMERGE plant in water overnight first night and every other week thereafter. TILLANDSIAS like bright light but not all day direct sun." I think I might have soaked the myosura and the other plants I got in that shipment maybe 15 minutes, because they honestly looked fine and had been in the shipping box only 3-4 days at most. I bought some Tillandsia-specific fertilizer a few years ago but only tried some recently, dissolving it in spray water because an article I read in the BSI journal said the author was surprised when the plants responded nicely. Otherwise most of the time I spray them with fresh-water aquarium water which has a small amount of fish and snail poop/urine in it. I might use a little more of the fertilizer in the spring, just to see what happens. Then again, while I don't have 2,000+ (I'm jealous!) I do have plenty and do not look forward to figuring out how to keep a blooming Xerographica happy...! Gonzer is right in everything he says. My advice may help folks who live at higher and/or drier altitudes with real winters.

I saw a picture somewhere of a lot of caput medusa(? might have been bulbosa, can't recall exactly) that were growing in the wild. They had attached themselves to the bottom of the limb of a tree and were pointing downward. Any heavy rain would drain off the plants easily. That picture made me decide that if I ever get the chance to go Tillandsia hunting in the wild, I will hunt with my camera, not with a bag to collect them (too much trouble getting them through customs!). That way, with pictures I can help fans see how plants grow when they are left to their own devices. Your plant looks familiar but I can't come up with a name. I'm sure Gonzer or any of several other people will give us some clues to help you look it up. In the unlikely event that they can't, you can check the pictures at the various sites that sell Tillandsias. I do count four pups on the plant, there may be others on the other side of it. You're doing something right as the plant must feel you will take good care of the next generation .

I had looked for some driftwood to mount my Tills for week,
then I found a good one in my Tarantula vivarium that already given up.

I think it look quite better than un-mounted in the plastic basket.

Stephania, do these Till's pup very well and are they slow growing? They look to be slow growing

Ive still gotta have one...LOL...Im going to keep my eye out for one when next shopping for broms
are they hard to come by?

Hi Gem,
As I know this species has only few pups after flowering.
Comparing to another big Till., yes I think it's quite slow grower
and take many years before blooming.
It's a CITES species, but I've heard they were propagated and offered
very low price in Philippines.

i dont mind if they are slow growing, it would be wonderful to have them to look apon for a couple of years

The fella who has these told me that he thinks hes growing them maybe in too much sun

Gidday Sanga, I live up in the Atherton Tablelands just up the hill from Cairns. This fella who is selling these Tillys also sells on ebay but i know him very well now in person. He doesnt normally sell these big beauties to just anyone. But because he trusts me and i asked if he had one then he said he could spare one for me. He does have a range of wonderful tilly's though. When i went to his open garden last November i was absolutley gobsmacked at his set up and his range of broms. Hes sells under the selling ID name of Waterwise Plants, maybe you could check him out
