Planning Ahead.......

I am thinking about spring, the warmer temps this week made me think that it will eventually get here. I can't put my brugs out until the end of May but I am planning ahead and thinking how much potting soil I will need. I want to start buying it soon because I am going to need a lot. I plan to pot some brugs and do a lot in sunken pots. However, I am trying to think of ways to save money since it is about $8-$10 for a 2cf bag of decent soil. Can I add compost, manure, or regular topsoil to my potting mix to try to stretch my dollar? What ratio should I mix these things in at?

I also want to hear about fertilizers that you use. This isn't really to save $, I just want to know what you get good results with. I use MiraclGro and it works but I want to try rotating it with some other stuff too. You all like the fish fertilizer, right? Anything else?
