Whole Branch Die Off

Hi all,

I've got a roughly seven foot tall, seven year old Brugmansia here in Los Angeles that I've been shamefully ignoring while it dies. I need to shape up and help it out!

Over the last six months--even back to warm weather--whole branches have been withering and drying out from the top down. I'm not talking about cold weather tip die-off that I've read about here, I'm talking about several feet of branches totally dying, and we don't get frost in LA.

I've tried to cut off all the dead parts and save the rest, but new dying limbs recur. The tree is just a shadow of its former self and I'm worried this process can't be stopped.

(I'd post jpgs, but I can't figure out how here. I'll do it if it would be useful.)

I'm sure this is a really newbie question and I do hope someone can advise me on what to do before my tree is totally gone.

Thanks,

Franz
