Again our annual thread for Ohio Gardeners (or neighbors who feel they are Ohio gardeners).

Name, rank and serial number please. Also consider adjusting your member information to let us know EXACTLY where you live in Ohio so we can provide appropriate advice. Folks in Cincy garden in much different conditions that those in Cleve.

I'm Karen, 46 years old. I live in Columbus Ohio with two kids at Ohio State and one still in high school. I grow tons of stuff cottage garden style and enjoy fresh lettuce and herbs from the garden.

I'm Lynda, 47 years old. I live in hilly Southeast Ohio near Jackson with my hubby Pat. We have 2 dogs, 8 goats, one cow, and 15 acres of land.

We're vegetarians and grow most of our own food. (The animals are pets and landscape crew for the main part of the land.) Last year we started work on our flower beds and this year is our big winter sowing and flower bed expansion year.

Another Karen, Cincinnati. This will be my 4th year wintersowing. I grow mostly flowers and a few tomatoes.

This is my first year wintersowing. I've been saving my milk gallons all winter... I know 20 or so isn't many to you veterans, but to my poor hubby it's a lot, especially now that they're starting to line our FRONT walk (Well, it's the best winter sun! The neighbors won't mind when our yard is full of flowers!) I'm packing in 2-4 varieties per jug to make the most of my space, does anyone else do that? Does it work ok? I am trying perennials, annuals, herbs, and some vegetables. Peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, melons, squash, and basil are going to be started inside, but most other stuff is going in the jugs. Gosh I am SOOO nervous to put all my babies that I traded for so lovingly, out in the snow and miserable cold... what if nothing comes up? What if it does and then dies in a really cold night? What if everything survives the winter only to drown in April rain??? I guess I should be reassured by all the success stories I see on GW! Lori

Ooops! I guess I need to write more. I'm Suzy from Indianapolis and last year was my first year WSing with 300 jugs and I was planting out until, well, about a week ago! I've been gardening all my life, so it is easy for me to remember the plants, what I did to grow them, what I need to change. I grow some under lights, WS some, but my big thing is July sowing of cool season annuals and I am a huge proponent of starting cool season annuals like Pansies in July. The trouble with July sowing is that I like the people on the WS forum the best. I grow way more annuals than perennial because I like to change things around, and change colors around...a red bed one year might be a blue & gold bed the next. It's VERY hard for me to dig up and get rid of a huge clump of something, even if it's something I don't like! My goal is to have nice looking grass... for the little I have left. LOL! Lime

Hi. My name is Cheryl, I live in Chicago, and I am a plantaholic. I've been addicted to gardening since I was a little girl. When I was about 10 living in a rented coach house I found a weed in the yard that I thought was pretty and potted it up and brought it in the house. There was no room for a garden there, but when we moved I had my first real garden. That's when I discovered I was addicted to the dirt. That was 37 years ago, and my plantaholism has been in full force and effect since then. I was most under the influence when my mother-in-law was able to secure the use of the lot next to their family's cleaners. I was in a planting stupor growing everything: lettuce, carrots, onions, cabbage, collards, turnips, mustards, cukes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cantelope, sugar baby watermelon, pumpkin, string beans, sweet peas, kholrabi, jingle bell peppers which I could pick 50 - 60 peppers at a time with the six plants, okra that grew over six feet tall. We had an herb garden with parsley, chives, sage, basil, dill and mint which one of the neighbors would help us pick so he could make mint tea for his little girls. Just thinking about it makes me giddy!!! The first year we participated in the city's Harvest Fair. We carefully packed up our bounty to take to the fair and actually won a number of second and third prizes and a couple of first place. It was truly great. But all good things must come to an end. The building was sold and our beautiful garden became a parking lot. I was relegated to getting my planting fix from a little piece of gardening space I dug out in the back yard. It kept the gotta-get-my-fingers-in-the-dirt withdrawls away for awhile. That worked for a couple of years until, due to remodeling, the water supply got cut off. I had to go cold turkey. No use bringing little plantlets into the world that you can't nourish with a nice sip of water when they need it. Cold turkey I went until two years when moved into our own house. Now I am a full-fledged plantaholic again. I'll never be sober!!! Thank you, GardenWeb, for showing me that there are other plantaholics just like me.

Hi Annette and Everyone, I have been a member since 2001. GW members have helped me so much. Big hugs to everyone!!! I so appreciate you sharing. I hope you don't mind if I do. For the first time in my life, I have space to plant. I live in PA now with an acre and a half and a dream of one huge cottage garden. It was a blank slate with self-sown maple trees when I bought here 11 years ago. We have installed many, many gardens but are barely making a dent. I get so far and the ideas just stop (or funds run out). Basically, I am trying to keep the view which is awesome of the farmlands all around and trees in the distance. It is challenging because to plant a garden next to my one neighbor will be creating a division so I will lose the long green. There is also a septic mound smack in the middle of the property. I keep threatening to put a round door on it and a sign that reads, "No Admittance except on party business" for those of you familiar with the Hobbit. There is also a bluebird trail that is used every year and so I also need to keep open space for the birds. So basically I want open space but also a filled cottage garden. LOL! I guess I need to post another pic and get some ideas from you all. Meanwhile, I placed my first order for 2015 - lots of glads. See what happens when I don't have Gardener's World to watch? Carol here, in North East Ohio the snowbelt capital! I'm going into my second year WSing. I had so much to can this year I really didn't get time to do anything else. I'm really fascinated by the whole winter sowing and the outcome is very rewarding! I grew a nice variety of flowers and had a huge veggy garden.

Laura here. I live in Amelia, just outside Cincinnati on the east side of I-275 loop. This will be my second year of wintersowing. I had so many compliments on my garden this year. I'm totally hooked and now see no reason to buy another plant if I can grow it from seed. In 2009, my husband and I will work together on a vegetable garden and herb garden in addition to my flower gardens. He's a believer now that he's seen what I can do with some milk jugs and some dirt!

Kat here, 28. I live in Cuyahoga Falls near Akron. I have 1/4 acre mostly shade, two step kids every weekend aged 8 and 10 and a toddler every day. Oh and a dog who likes digging and p-ing in my gardens. Also a cat who lays on things and brings home squirrels.

This will be my first WS and I can't wait. It will be a second Christmas for me without the running around.

Hi, I'm Ellen. I live on 2 acres outside of Xenia, just east of Dayton. Been WSing for 7 years. I'll try anything that has a seed (-: I have a 25 x 50 vegetable garden, several flower beds and window boxes & lots of pots to fill. I also start some things like peppers & tomatoes under lights in my basement. I need something green to tend in the winter.

Hi, I'm Jeanne and I live in SW Franklin County with my wonderful husband, darling daughter and unique grandson. I also have two lovely grown daughters, two fantastic sons-in-law and five other adorable grandchildren. A cat and dog round out the crew. I garden on a small suburban lot that backs onto a creek and has perfect gardening soil. I collect daffodils, old garden roses and peonies, the front yard has a cottagey feel to it. I'm trying to create a tropicalish backyard for my parrothead hubby. It's a work in progress. ;)
I've been wintersowing for many years and while I do more lurking than posting, I'm a regular on the container count threads.

This is Shelia. I live in southeast Ohio right on the Ohio river. We are about 30 miles from Athens, OH. We have 2 acres here and I like to grow lots of annuals and perennials and shrubs. Plus we have a vegetable garden and I also have a watergarden. This will be my first year wintersowing and I am excited and eager to get started.

I live just northwest of columbus and I've been WS for several years now. I love it! I do both flowers and veggies and love my WS tomatoes.

DeAnne here. I have been wintersowing for four years. I live in Lewis Center, right outside of Columbus. I wintersow annuals and perennials on almost an acre. I am mostly just a lurker!
