I'm another Karen. I live in Cincinnati.

This will be my 3rd year wintersowing. I have also lost some of my favorite plants due to the same drought and heat that bakemom mentioned, so I am considering my wide world of choices. In my 2 years, I have filled most of my planting space, and it's spilling over. Near the end of planting out I tucked little plants into spots where I knew they couldn't stay, just any old bare tiny spot of dirt I could find. I need to move some perennials and see how much room might actually be left, then plan this year's wintersowing accordingly.

Im here in Cincinnati too! and with at least 3 inches of rain in the past 3 days! that is, and i am not joking, more than twice we got ALL summer. now its sunny and wonderful! drove around today and it seems like we got ALOT more rain than neighboring cities. this will also be my 3rd year winter sowing.

I'm Ruth from Lakewood, westside of Cleveland. This was my first year winter sowing and I am addicted now! I was really impressed with how well coleus did from seeds I got from neighbors neglected plants. Marigolds, zinnia, amaranthus, and spanish flags were some of my favourites that I grew.

I am washing up my containers this weekend and collecting seeds to start sowing in Dec!

Lynne from Circleville, which is about 30 miles south of Columbus. Wintersowed for the first time last year, and loved the results, even though this year wasn't the best weather for ANY gardening. Just had half my sunny flower garden ripped up by a backhoe, (had a new floor drain put in for my basement), and will be starting fresh there again next year... (sigh).

Lyinne, I think I sent you some seeds a while back, but if you need more, I'm your girl! My family owns several farms in Pickaway County and my mom's family used to compete each year in the pumpkin show! I'm a city girl, but the little country I have is in your 'hood. I love Circleville (neato courthouse).

I'm Barbi - live just north west of columbus. it's my 3rd year wintersowing and I'm hooked! I've finally been able to grow tomatoes from seed and have been working my way thru as many varieties as I can!

I see the need for lots of new flower beds and a much larger veggie garden!

Hi, I'm Joette. I live in Wayne County, which is still very rural. It's about an hour south of Cleveland and the Snow Belt.

I discovered this forum on a dreary February day a few years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I just wish I had more time to devote to it. I will be concentrating on growing more perennials this year. I'm also going to try growing hostas from seed. I know they don't tend to come true, but it will be fun to see what I do get.

Amy here. I'm from Toledo, but now I live in Cincinnati with my husband (source of my screen name), two cats and two rabbits. The rabbits help me garden with their frequent additions to my compost pile!

This will be my third time wintersowing and I haven't decided what all I am to sow. I lost some plants to the drought and gave away some that wore out their welcome. I really want more hostas but I'm too impatient to wintersow those. I mostly do annuals and herbs plus tomatoes and peppers. I'll probably do more perennials this year to replace the ones I lost.

I am from near Cincinnati. I haven't tried wintersowing yet, but Bakemom talked me into it. And the seeds she sent will give me a start. I am just begining flower gardening so I have a lot of room to fill. I did direct sow some this year and my Cosmos turned out ok. A few 4 o'clocks came up. (I also had a mystery plant come up.) Other plants were pretty sporadic.
I have been busy reading about winter sowing, collecting containers and bought my potting soil so I think I am almost ready.

Hi...I am Beverly, from Central Ohio, in Hilliard. I've been WSing for several years now. I've had to hold back a bit because of a foot injury and having to ask others to put the plants in the ground. I've had a wonderful times WSing and I think it's an awesome way to get lots of plants and a good winter gardening project. However - I may sow in the winter and early spring - I collect/buy seeds all year which actually makes in a yearround project.

I love to WS annuals the most. I've tried many of them and always include amaranthus, celosia, vining lobelia, dianthus and more.

I always want to commend Bakemom for her zealous approach to speading the good work of WSing.

PS - to my fellow Ohio folks...Princess Mimi and I host a big plant swap/potluck in the spring, here in Hilliard. Please check the Get-togethers Forum at the first of the year or so for details. There are always LOTS of folks and thousands of plants to trade. Of course, there's always some WS plants at the spring swap.

Hi all, I'm Stef, 3rd year wintersowing... WS'ed in '04 and '05 in Zone 5 (NE PA), didn't have a garden in '06 and '07 (moving and adjusting to the move), and finally doing WS again, as a newbie in Zone 6 Crazy Weather Cincinnati.

When I WS'ed in PA I didn't really have a plan, mostly just trying out WSing if it really would work for me (it did, obviously). I plunked everything down all over the place, so I wasn't all that pleased with the look I ended up with, so this time around I'm carefully planning what goes where, etc. Heh, I've got OC tendencies, so right now I'm filling up my database so when WSing commences I'll be all ready with my numbers and plans LOL.

I'm Ellen and I'm on 2 acres just east of Xenia (beautiful New Jasper Twp.) Been WS about 5 years. I also start some things in my basement under lights so I can "garden" in the winter. I was unemployed over the summer and still didn't get everything done I planned. I'm a single mom (24 & 21, girls) The oldest just got married and the youngest is a senior at Wright State. Psychology major, I think she wants to figure out her mom's gardening compulsion. I visit a lot just haven't posted in a while. My WS petunias were the only thing that did good in the 12 hanging baskets I put around my porch. Come to think of it the only things that did well this hot dry summer were the things I WS'd. Gonna do lots more this winter......if we have winter?

Not quite a buckeye. I'm 11 miles from Cincinnati. So I figured I would chime in. I have ws'd for 2 years. First was mildly successful. Last year was good. I'm looking for even better job this year. I have learned to allow for a few failures but I'm going to start many different types. So I have more than I type of flower.

Linda from Youngstown, this will be my first year to WS. I am so excited!!! Thanks Bakemom for all the seeds you sent me. I have also collected some of my own seeds from annuals that I have growing this year. I have my whole family saving containers for me. They all thing I'm a little on the wacky side, but they love me any ways.

I'm Laura and I live in Amelia (an eastern suburb of Cincinnati). This will be my first year winter sowing. I've been reading this forum since the end of last winter and I'm so excited to see how well it will go for me. I've already started saving all our empty milk jugs -- my husband thinks it's totally crazy!

This summer's drought didn't affect my flower garden as I put down a soaker hose on a timer, but I'm pretty sure we've lost 6 shrubs and a fir tree. I'll wait until spring to see if they rebound, I really hope some make it through!

This year I plan on winter sowing lady's mantle, foxglove 'candy mountain', poppies, nasturtiums, echinacea, delphiniums, cosmos, violas --- the list keeps growing!!

Barnbatt, I agree - go UK. I don't know how things are going to end up tonight, but it's quite a battle. I'm at home from the shoe nursing a slight sunburn and Taco Bell fallout.

Anymore Buckeyes out there? Anyone need seeds? Any bets on the BCS? I have seen a smattering of new Ohio gardeners here and there. Stand up and be proud!

This Buckeye has been transplanted to Michigan. But my roots are in Ohio and they are red & gray. I've been here since 1979. Every yr. my DH & I have a bet on the OHio vs. Mich game with my DD & her DH who is a U of M alumni. So far we've recieved alot of gormet meals that my son in law has cooked for us, that's always the bet. If we lose we baby sit gkids. It's a win win for us, no matter what team wins. I have winter-sowed the last 2 yrs. & love doing it. I got into a seed swap in the Cottage forum so I have so many seeds I will have to do some drive-by plantings.

Hey hey hey, here is another Buckeye!! I am in Zanesville and this will be my 4th year of ws'ing.. I probably will not be starting though till late January, I dont trust out weather. The first year I ws'd I lost quite a few things cause they sprouted in early January due to a warm streak then died when winter did decide to set in.. Go BUCKEYES!!!!!

I'm Suzy from Indianapolis and last year was my first year WSing with 300 jugs and I was planting out until, well, about a week ago! I've been gardening all my life, so it is easy for me to remember the plants, what I did to grow them, what I need to change. I grow some under lights, WS some, but my big thing is July sowing of cool season annuals and I am a huge proponent of starting cool season annuals like Pansies in July. The trouble with July sowing is that I like the people on the WS forum the best.

I grow way more annuals than perennial because I like to change things around, and change colors around...a red bed one year might be a blue & gold bed the next. It's VERY hard for me to dig up and get rid of a huge clump of something, even if it's something I don't like!

My goal is to have nice looking grass... for the little I have left. LOL!
