Yep, this turned out to be a predatory bug! Now that I finally know what a GST egg looks like (had females laying eggs all over my navel orange tree this season) there's no way I'll ever make that mistake again :o) Oh well, guess I can be known as the person who raised an assassin bug :o) HA! Another palamedes swallowtail has emerged this morning, also a little bit smallish, but a female. For a palamedes, she has a LOT of blue on the lower edge of her hindwings - There's a late instar palamedes cat in the same cage that this one came from that I'm quite sure is NOT going to be on the small side. I've named him/her STILL Eating, because that's what I say every time I look in the cage. I thought it was going to pupate a long time ago, but no big bowel expulsion has happened yet - it seems like it's eaten nearly a whole redbay! It finally left a piece of leaf intact this morning, so maybe it'll finally happen today! Sherry

'So sorry for your freeze troubles, Dave! I was surprised how many "dead" plants eventually came back. I thought for sure the Passiflora 'Incense', P. biflora, pride of Barbados and even P. 'Amethyst' were goners, but they all eventually returned, though slowly, with my Passiflora biflora only popping up about a week ago - even an Asclepias curassavica came back! It got down to 18 degrees here one night during an entire week of lighter freezes at night. That said, I'm glad you're replanting - you probably had a lot of tropicals more tender than what I have. Hmmm. maybe I should check my hibiscus. The only time I've seen this is when the plants are up against each other, and she misses her mark. Although the GSTs lay eggs on my lakeview jasmine and the cats can't live on it (though it does appear in host plant lists in the rutacae family). But mostly the answer is no, unless the plants are very close together or entwined. In my experience anyway. Oh well, off to check the hibiscus. a couple of which are pretty near to some citrus..
