Another 'have-you-ever-bought-from' question

Still on my quest for cybisters and came upon www.willowcreekgardens.com. They showing some really pretty amaryllis and a number of cybisters. Have several picked out but trying to hold off to ask those in the know first.

Good question Kitty! That was another site I was wondering about. The second was American Meadows. A possible third was Park Seed.

I vow not to buy anymore until my RC order arrives! I should wait until Feb, as I had great luck last year with Spring shipments and wonderful late blooms.

check out the reviews on gardenwatchdog. they're all positive, it reads that they are affiliated with easy to grow bulbs who I ordered my cybs from a couple of years back. I was happy with what I got, so were the bulb flys here in MA, I'm down to one ruby meyer now...

Park Seed, is affiliated with wayside gardens, I've ordered from them in the past but I usually wait for their specials. Last year they had 2 for 1 sales in early winter.

Hey Gabro, The plant i was talking about was the one that has the plastic cover around it. I forgot to mention that the plastic cover was open on both ends. Like i mentioned in the Cacti & Succulents Forum, the plant was top heavy, and would topple over easily. Well a few days ago, it got knocked and toppled onto the cement floor, which caused it to break into 20 or so pieces. There isn't much left of it, so the only thing i could do was scoop up the stems and leaves that broke off and put them in some soil in hopes that they might root. Now, the plant is looking very much like it is destined for the dumpster soon. It wasn't holding on much before it took it's spill, and i'm not sure that it will pull thru being destroyed. Oh well like i said before, i never really liked the plant in the first place. - Pete

I have a great ebay story.... I have both bought and sold, but my favorite was a family bible that I found on Ebay, with a lot of genealogy information in it. I wanted to purchase it for my cousin for Christmas. We are both genealogy nuts, and this bible was from his direct family. As it goes, this huge coffee table bible was a steal at $25.00 but at the last minute, some person came in a we went head to head on this until the price reached $75.00. I had to stop because it was out of my price range, and I was honestly sick to my stomache that I had lost this priceless piece of family history to who knows? I was crushed to say the least. I sent the person an email the next day and told him that I was crushed, but could he possibly photocopy the family info in the bible for me for my family history? Turns out he is a pastor that re-constructs old bibles in his spare time. He said he would sell me the bible, for his cost on one condition....that he would fix the binding and the brass lock on it and mail it to me in perfect condition. I was thrilled ! I got the bible, it was about 8 inches thick and about 100 years old. A real beauty. The pastor would not allow me to pay him for his work or shipping. I sent the bible to my cousin after Christmas, but it was truly a wonderful ebay experience after all. Trin

Ok, three of my favorite voices around here--Palimpsest, Ideefixe and Oakleyok--have pretty well covered all the bases, but just to recap... The three biggest causes of Decorating Remorse--other than watching TV decorating shows & wishing you had done something other than what you already did, I mean--are Being in too big a hurry & buying something just to have something (rather than have nothing), Worrying about inconsequential stylistic labels & categories, and Buying brand new pieces. I did without a sofa for five years rather than buy something merely to be have something to sit on, I don't worry about what style supposedly goes with what, and I never buy anything new. Well, almost never. The most expensive thing in my house is an early 19th century sofa, for which I forked over 850 of my hard-earned dollars, and the two-months-long diet of peanut-butter sandwiches that paid for it was worth every bite. The second-most-expensive thing I ever bought was also the only thing I've ever bought new: a gigantic 3-piece arched mirror set out of a popular catalog that looked very handsome in the photo but which turned out to be a piece--well, three pieces--of junk, which I should have predicted, since, Hello!, it was in a popular catalog. All I can say is I must have been on Nyquil that day. Anyway, I seldom make mistakes, but when I do, I don't brood & beat myself up over them, so I hauled them down to the service entrance lobby of my building and in a few hours, they were gone. The problem with the calls to my cell phone is there is never a human being on the call. It's always an automated message and to even find out who's behind it you have to call them and I sure am not going to do that, then they know for sure it's a good number. I do look it up on Google and find hundreds of other mad people who want to know about it also. On occasion some one else will post the information they were able to get from them. In most cases it's about a cruise ship from Florida but of course there's a lot more to it than that. They call my husband's number too and besides me and his business associates not many have his number either. We don't ever put our cellphone numbers on anything because I don't want the calls coming to any where but at home. I don't answer if I'm driving anyway so it is easier to deal with it from home. I have seen on Google some people who have reported the numbers but nothing was done about it.. I do put some on the block list but they have so many roll over numbers it doesn't matter.

All of these companies have been ordered from last year... I just can't remember who ordered what from which! Chaz is right... anyone who makes the positive list on Dave's GardenWatchDog is worth trying!

American Meadows bulbs are expensive. If you are looking for particular bulb that is not available on any other site, you can go with them.

I have bought from Parkseed, Johnscheepers and gardenvalueoutlet. These 3 companies are really good. if you can wait for couple of months, you may get sale on parkseed and Gardenvalueoutlet. Last year i have got nice big bulbs on sale. They range from $6-$10 depends on the size. Even the size of the bulb range is 32- 40cm.

Johnscheeper bulbs are also good. but i haven't seen the sale. Johnschpeepers shipping cost is also really good.

Thanks so much for all your input. I've been buying from Parks forever. My mother (now 20 years gone) ordered from them. Never had a problem. I don't know how long ago they and Wayside became the same company, well, sort of. I'm so excited about ordering more hippis that I can hardly stand it, and don't know where I'll put all of them when they start to throw their scapes. . . . think, think, think . . . Time's up! I'm going to order something from somewhere . . Then RC will get their order through, and I'l be inundated. Well, just two or three for now :-)

John Scheepers/Van Engelen are only good shipping prices if you are on the east coast. Out here to the west coast/pacific northwest they are 20%. I cry every time I pay my credit card!

Who, of all these companies that carry hippis, has the best shipping prices? Besides Royal Colors, who gives free shipping if the order is over a certain amount. Who other than them is decent for shipping costs?

Garden Value outlet is also giving free shipping only if you spend more than $99.

Some companies charge less for the bulb and charge Shipping cost. and som companies charge more for the bulb not charging Shipping costs.

Does any bought bulbs from royalcolors. they didn't mention the size of the bulbs. What size the bulbs are?

I was just on Garden Value Outlet, and clicked on a few. Apparently their bulbs come from Ednie Bulb Company which is five miles from me, but they're wholesale and don't sell to the public unless it's the end of the season when they put them down by the road. That website wipes out your shopping cart if it's inactive for 20 mins.

So I'm back at not having ordered yet. Amaryllis.com has Cybisters, but they're $15 each plus $9.95 for shipping for the three they have (Emerald, Ruby Meyer, and Lima. Sheepers is $4.95 (for NJ) shipping with a minimum of a $35 order, but they don't have Lima. Guess I'll order from them.

Royal Colors bulbs are very large and beautiful... I ordered from them last season, and was really pleased! I think you'll get good reviews from most here who have ordered from them.

I like John Scheeper's merchandise, but their shipping to the Midwest is 15% of an order. Depending on what's ordered, that could add up.

A minimum of $99. is not within the confines of my buying power! That's out of the question. It's looking like another Royal Colors order, and maybe one from White Flower Farm.

Thanks again for all the wonderful input. I did make purchases today based on the input everybody provided. Companies are starting to sell out and had trouble finding a few that I had wanted, but still no Evergreen. Had no idea that they sold out this quickly! So ordered from Van Engelen, Parks, and Willow Creek. Still waiting on RC, but Wayside's replacement order arrived today which had double Stars and Stripes (huge! at least a pound), two Jade Serpents, and a Harlequin. Believe this will be it . . . period! Well, perhaps Evergreen.

Kristi Thanks so much, just sent you an e-mail. I actually was on that site yesterday afternoon and had it in my basket. I stopped because they told me to buy another $22 and I'd be eligible for a discount. Couldn't figure out what else to buy, then someone in my house shut down that site (ugh!!). I got up this a.m. thinking about it. I really appreciate your offer, because I've spent way too much already. Kitty
