I cannot take credit for the idea... it was all Cindee! It was sure a lot of fun! I'd be game to do it over this year, but not until I have better photos taken... I looked horrible in the last one... and I really need a haircut and a dye job before I'll let anyone near me with camera now! LOL!

Gosh, I feel so old and I look like such a hag! I suppose that's why the old man calls me Hag as a nickname! LOL!

Larschar, I have to ask, how did you come up with your dogs name? It is a swahili word I learned recently, I was mis-heard saying an italian word by a friend from Kenya and she wanted to know how I learned a swahili word, not a nice one! LOL, just be careful if you ever bring your dog to kenya!

Omigoodness, chazparas. He had that name when we adopted him! I just looked it up and called my husband freaking out! Omigosh. Good thing we call him Kooey. Ahhhhh!!!! We look like perverts! I swear we aren't! hahahahahaha Good Lord.

Hey guys n gals...

I was always wondering about "seeing" everyone and thought how neat it would be to meet...but my idea of meeting was deciding on a location and then booking a flight for an Amaryllis Convention...how crazy is THAT?!?!? LOL Ah well....

SO...here is a picture of me. I had just bought a new speedlite flash for my Canon SLR and had to try it out...soo....went to a friends place and had him snap the picture of me in the living room with the flash bouncing off the ceiling. I thought it turned out pretty good.

Nursing school! That's awesome. I studied biology here at KSU. I was going to go to nursing school after but I had our daughter during undergrad and wanted more babies. I decided to stay home and help run the greenhouse :-) I keep telling hubby that when I'm done with babies I'm going to nursing school.

Larissa, I absolutely love nursing school. It's a lot more work than I ever expected. But, If I had an opportunity to stay home and run a greenhouse I may have reconsidered! I was an art major many years ago when I first went to school, so the amount of reading and studying I'm doing now is amazing. I couldn't have done it when I was younger. BTW, you've got mail...

Chaz, larschar, blancawing.... oh man...did I open a proverbial pandora's box or what???? LOL That's what I get for opening my big mouth eh? Ah well...I'd have to admit that if that sort of thing WAS gonna happen *blush* I wouldn't be able to afford the plane ticket....but if I could, I'd be there in a New York Minute!

Wouldn't that be great, if only we all could afford to fly and meet up. I just had a vision of us all on the beaches of Tahiti looking for hippi blooms. What a vision, you kids running on the beach, and the rest of us hobbling behind with walkers, canes, crutches, wheelchairs, out of breath and sweaty, with guide dogs, guide gals, guide studs, LOL I'm getting a bit loopy here sorry.

I have been growing amaryllis since last 2 years. We used to have amaryllis when we were kids and in India. We used to call them as lilies (anything with bulbs we used to call them lilies). After coming to US, I searched in Google, I didnÂt find them. 2 years back, one day I found amaryllis bulb kit in Wal-Mart. Then I googled, I found somany varieties. I never knew there are somany colors and varieties. Till then I have seen only 3-4 varieties. Since then I started collecting them. This year I added 15 more to my collection. Now I have nearly 50 varieties. I am so excited to meet everybody. Thanks for creating this discussion.

As a child anything in the yard that was green was called either grass, tree, or plant. Then anything with a flower was called Flower. I knew vegetables very well as we grew all kinds even in our tiny New York garden. When I was 5 I started wanting to know the names of plants as I was beginning my interest with seeds and growing my own.
So I understand anything that grows from a bulb is a lily all too well!

This was on the way home with Josie with 200 miles left in a 1000 mile weekend of picking her up! We stopped in POrtland to show Josie to our youngest daughter who loves Gordon Setters (And all puppies!) Josie was 8 weeks old then, back on Memorial Day weekend.

Wonderful, wonderful photos! Everyone looks so happy! It really is a great looking group!

It's amazing to see just who it is that has such a love for bulbs!

I wish we weren't quite so spread out all over the globe... it would be awesome to have a weekend get-together, to meet and trade bulbs or seeds, and stories... that would be so much fun!

The tattoo on my back, shoulder is a custom dreamcatcher... my husband actually designed it... it has lots of symbols in it... my 3 kids, the path of my life, a watchful eye, and lots more that I can't remember at the moment... all my ink is custom, done by Laughin' Larry of Allentown, PA. He comes to visit every once in a while, and we always get ink when he's here.

Our wedding and reception was at the local Sportsman's Club, hence the deer... my kids are lighting candles as part of a candle ceremony to include them. I wanted them to know that they were part of the marriage, the whole family. The hall rental was a gift from a dear friend. I made as much of the wedding items as I could, to save cash! Our wedding was really reasonably priced, considering! Yes, 2000 was a great year!

larschar-I am from Ks also, Dodge City, I'm curious about the kunz in your e-mail address. That was my maiden name. And yes, I DO grow amaryllis. I just got back from Europe and wanted to smuggle an amaryllis bulb in, but all I saw to buy was the run of the mill stuff we have here.

Speaking of tattoos... I notice Chaz has a little ink, there! Elaborate, please! I love tattoos! I also love bald men, as you can tell, so all you smooth-headed guys... very nice!

Yes... I'd have to say that Hippeastrum lovers are a very good looking group of individuals! We also have very nice looking pets! It must be a nurturing thing... we garden, most of us have pets...

I joined gardenweb since 2002 but was on the orchid forum and now Amaryllis is my favorite!!! I works in NYC. Anyone in Manhattan too so we can exchange the new extra bulbs when we order multi-bulbs from van E in a set of 3 and really need only 2 (one for real and one for backup)

Welcome to hippi world! LOL, Michele I used to live in Brooklyn NY. I miss the Brooklyn and New York botanical gardens, there is also a new botanical garden in Brooklyn called the Narrows Botanical Garden, it's about 10 years old and really beautiful spring through fall.

Jodi, yes there are a few Tattoos, each outer calf, back and shoulder. Asian inspired dragon on left calf, asian inspired tiger on right calf, parrot and rose on right shoulder in memory of an ex that passed away 22 years ago, and a stylized celtic symbol on my back, after I got it I was told it was a french celtic symbol indicating travel.

I had worked in the airline industry for almost 15 years, most of it as a flight attendant. I really miss my travels, especially to Amsterdam a city with one of the greatest flower markets I've ever seen! Talk about huge bulbs! Stuff we never see here in the states. I bought hardy cyclamens there with corms the size of dessert plates, each producing over 100 flowers! Of course after they bloomed and I put them in the ground something ate them! Probably rats or possums in NY. Anyway I'm rambling, it's late, and I need sleep!

It is so cool to see and "meet" you all and your wonderful pets! I guess it is my turn to hop on the bandwagon now so here goes! The only pets I have here are my plants, but my family has all sorts of "critters" as my dad calls them back home. We have horses, cows, chickens, cats, dogs, a rooster, a donkey, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some...haha! They keep my dad thoroughly entertained!

Great photo, Frank! I only own a few dogs right now, but here where I live, there are horses, goats, barn cats, muscovy ducks, chickens, peacocks... and more dogs than I can count! At one time in my life, I lived on a working dairy farm... we had a rather large herd of Holsteins, milking twice daily! Nothing like that fresh milk!

Frank! Great to see you, buddy! We have "critters", too. Kooey is the inside dog and then Reckless is the working dog here at the farm (he bit me a month ago, now I'm scared of him), mousing cats, random pigs we raise to butcher and last but not least the Shorthorn cattle. They are my in-laws business, but they are everywhere. lol
Hubby's parents gave each of their three kids 40-160 acres to build on (depending on the kid) and each of the farmsteads have pastures obviously adjoining them. Cows, cows everywhere.
