quick question how did you get your herrei so fat?

Suc - I water the herrei when dry at this time of year, very little in the heat of summer. Not much else. Lots of light. I got it as a seedling from Rare Exotics, when it looked like this:

I have potted it up into a larger pot, too, since I got it. I have had it since about October 2008, and find that it grows pretty fast.

Great looking family. Do you have them all? At one time, I tried to have all of the Sarcocaulons. Man, that was expensive....

So, my question to the group, are these growing like Avonia? Basically cool-weather growers?

thanx tom ... looking at my herri i think it was grown from a cutting wich may explain why its so thin its probably been dried out prior to rooting like you would a tylecodon cutting. i havent had it long it probably just hasent had a chance to fatten up yet. do you keep yours in full sun all summer? is there a problem with dessication.

Tom....any help would be very much appreciated. I love that photo that you posted. What are the specific names of your othonnas...and any idea where one could find these beauties? I tried a search on Yahoo and only found seeds...the only seeds I've ever been able to germinate have been tomato and marigold!! LOL I'd love to have at least one...with the nice trunk. The two plants on either end are O. euphorbioides...I believe that I got them both at GPdesert.com (great petaluma desert...). I think I also bought the O. arbuscula there, as well (thin one, second from the left...). The O. herrei (second from the right, knobby trunk) is from rareexotics.com (Rare Exotics...).

I was at GPD a couple days ago, brought home a couple nice euphorbioides

Very Cooooool, if they are from below the equator and Africa, Madagascar very likely they are winter growers. But verify this, another clue, if they are putting on growth this time of year. Norma
